5 Best and 5 Worst Live Action TV Series Based On Comics

August 30th, 2012 4:07pm EDT
The Walking Dead
Expectations are high for Joss Whedon's SHIELD live-action superhero series. While animated series based on comics have flourished ever since Batman: The Animated series broke onto the scene in the early 90s, live-action shows based on comic books are hit-or-miss. They require a larger budget to showcase super powers and outlandish costumes and mutants. Despite this, we were able to point out the five best live action TV shows based on comics - and managed to cut down the worst to five.

The Best:

1. The Incredible Hulk: This TV took its comic book source seriously, and the show profited...

Lou Ferrigno Donates $50,000 To Girl Suffering From Muscular Dystrophy

March 22nd, 2012 12:23pm EDT
Lou Ferrigno
Kind-hearted Lou Ferrigno had a surprise in store for a young girl suffering from muscular dystrophy - he has handed her his $50,000 earnings from The Celebrity Apprentice.

The hearing-impaired Incredible Hulk star won the money for his charity Muscular Dystrophy Association, but donated the full amount to Abbey Umali after he was moved by her story.

The bodybuilding star fought back tears as he heard of her plight, as it brought back memories of his own painful upbringing.

He said on the show, "I'm giving $50,000 that I won from my charity to Abbey... Close to birth...I lost like 80 ...

Disney's 'Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes!' Is Better Than You Might Think

November 15th, 2010 7:13am EST
Iron Man, Wasp, Thor, Ant-Man, Hulk, and Captain America team up
Speaking as a devoted fan of the Marvel-verse and the collection of their premiere heroes known as The Avengers, I have been pleasantly surprised by the animated version currently airing on Disney XD (and before you ask, I have no idea what “XD” stands for).

For those who don’t eat, sleep, and breathe comic books, The Avengers is a team made up of Marvel’s biggest names and heaviest hitters. Starting when Ant-Man, Iron Man, Wasp, Thor, and Hulk were brought together to fight Thor’s evil brother Loki, the team has lasted through decades of deaths, crossover events, and roster changes to rem...

The star has had a string of well-publicized meltdowns, most notably checking into rehab shortly after appearing on 2009's Britain's Got Talent. She also hit the headlines last year after she became embroiled in an argument with her assistant at a Japanese airport during a promotional trip.

Boyle blames the incident on being tired and overworked - but confesses she does have issues with her temper.

Celebrity Fashion Review: Summer Frumps

August 7th, 2008 10:34am EDT
Bai Ling
The Black Eyed Peas were very successful with their smash hit single "My Humps." So let's sing the following lines to the beat of the main chorus of that song (if you know it). Why? Because some celebrities can at times be major fashion disasters, and it just seemed fitting to belt out these original lyrics in their honor:

"My junks! My junks! My messy summer frumps! My boring summer dress, no guy is gonna look. My pointless grayish suit, no woman's gonna drool. My tacky rolled up jeans. I look like a hot mess. My messy summer frumps! My messy summer frumps! In the back and in the...

Original Hulk Finally Gets To Roar

June 18th, 2008 10:48am EDT
Lou Ferrigno
The original TV Hulk Lou Ferrigno is a huge part of the latest film about the mean green giant - he provided the grunts and roars for Edward Norton's angry alter-ego.

Ferrigno, who also plays a pizza-loving security guard in the new blockbuster, never got the chance to give The Hulk a voice in the original 1970s TV series or the much-maligned 2003 movie adaptation but he's more than making up for it now.

The 56-year-old bodybuilder says, "The (original) growl was done by Ted Cassidy, who played Lurch on The Addams Family."

Ferrigno's voice track was one of the last things to ...

'Hulk' Sequel Set for 2008

November 9th, 2006 9:55am EST
The Hulk
A sequel to The Hulk is set to hit the big screen in 2008, and it will stay closer to the classic TV series than its comic book origins. The movie will reference events that took place in Ang Lee's 2003 movie but Eric Bana, who played the title character, will not return.

Screenwriter Zak Penn says, "It's definitely not a remake. We're not going to tell the origin story of the Hulk. I think the tone will shift. We all loved the action (in the first one), and I like a lot of the creature stuff and I liked the performances in the movie.

"There's something about the tone of the TV ...
