When the gang suspects that Barney has a girlfriend after he mysteriously leaves MacLaren's, they decide to follow him. They learn that he is visiting his mother and he's hired actors to play his wife and son to put on an act for his mother.
Do I Know You?
Stella says yes to Ted's marriage proposal but Marshall is worried that they don't know enough about each other. He and Ted hatch a plan to put their compatiblity to the test. Meanwhile, Barney admits to Lily that he's in love with Robin and she tries to help him win her over.
After Stella and Ted make the spontaneous decision to get married in three days, the presence of their exes destroys what was to be the "happiest day of their lives." Robin begs Ted to reconsider marrying Stella but Stella ends up running off with her ex. Barney's plan to bed Robin again is dashed by Stella's agressive sister and his own nature.
When Ted loses his job and decides to form his own architectural firm out of his apartment, he hires an intern to help get his company off the ground, but the intern gets too close for comfort with some of Ted's friends.
The Front Porch
When Karen finds another woman's earring in Ted's bed, he discovers that Lily planted it there on purpose, and that she secretly meddled in some of his previous relationships as well.
As Fast As She Can
When an old acquaintance who feels he's ruined Ted's life insists on helping him find a job, the act of kindness backfires. Meanwhile, Barney tries to prove he can talk his way out of a speeding ticket.
Ted tries to prove he's not pathetic for getting left at the altar and Barney tries to impress Robin, who thinks fighting is sexy, by fighting with patrons who are sitting in their favorite booth.
When Ted and Robin become "friends with benefits" to deal with conflicts they're having around the apartment, Barney tries to resolve the issues so they'll stop hooking up. Meanwhile, "reality" stars get too real for Marshall when they taunt him from the pages of his magazine.
Ted turns into an overprotective, older brother by going out of his way to keep his sister out of trouble when she comes to visit him in New York. Meanwhile, Marshall and Robin bond when he introduces her to a Minnesota themed bar.
I Heart NJ
After inviting the gang to Stella's apartment in New Jersey, Ted tries to sell them on the perks of living in the suburbs until he learns that she expects him to move there after they're married. Meanwhile, Robin quits her job thinking that she already has another lined up. The job turns out to be an interview but she winds up with a new job as a foreign correspondent in Japan.
The three days Rule
Barney and Marshall switch the phone number of a new woman that Ted met in his phone so when Ted texts her the texts actually go to Barney. Robin clues Ted in and he turns the joke back on them.
Not a Father's Day
When Lily and Marshall contemplate making the life-changing decision to have a baby, Lily turns to Ted and Robin for advice and their very different points of view on the issue. In protest of the decision, Barney creates a new holiday for men who are not fathers.
