CBS Renews A Ton Of Shows

March 13th, 2014 3:16pm EDT
The Good Wife
CBS issued renewals to NCIS, NCIS: LA, CSI, Criminal Minds, Person Of Interest, Elementary, Hawaii Five-O, Blue Bloods, The Good Wife, 2 Broke Girls, The Millers, Mom, Mike and Molly, Two and a Half Men, The Amazing Race, Survivor, Undercover Boss, 60 Minutes, and 48 Hours. Add to that the renewal of The Big Bang Theory, and CBS just renewed a whopping 20 shows.

Not being picked up, but still not cancelled, are The Mentalist, Intelligence, Hostages, and The Crazy Ones. I would definitely rule out Intelligence and Hostages. Both failed to grab huge audiences. I think The Mentalist will prob...

CBS 'Intelligence' Series Premiere Is Refreshing And Convincing

January 8th, 2014 2:25pm EST
Intelligence
Intelligence debuted with a strong episode - cerebrally as well action-wise - along with a good starting plot and set-up for the series, and a generally outstanding cast.

Leading that cast is Josh Holloway in his first major television outing since his portrayal of Sawyer in Lost, one of the most memorable characters in that now classic series. Michael Emerson who played Ben in Lost has done well for himself in Person of Interest, so Holloway had a lot to live up to.  He's doing fine so far with his customary mix of sarcasm and no nonsense, a good persona for the lead character who is a ma...

Mateus Ward on Why Jake Called Home on ‘Hostages’ and What Else Fans Can Expect This Season

November 4th, 2013 3:30pm EST
Mateus Ward
If you’ve seen Hostages at 10 pm ET on CBS Mondays you might be saying to yourself—is this really a CBS show? Unlike other hits on the network like NCIS, Hostages is incredibly serialized and may even be a limited series—certainly not primed for 10 seasons.

To learn more about the show and plans for the rest of the season, I recently spoke with Mateus Ward who plays Jake Sanders on the show. He’s described as the “not-so-innocent son” taken hostage along with his family by a rogue FBI agent played by Dylan McDermott?

Why? Because McDermott’s character wants Jake’s mom to kill the Presiden...

2013 Fall TV Season: What Will Be The Second Cancellation?

October 8th, 2013 6:00pm EDT
Ironside
NBC- The Voice is still doing good numbers on Monday/Tuesday. The Blacklist is winning its timeslot, and was the first show (technically) to be rewarded with a back-nine pickup. Chicago Fire is also doing solid numbers on Tuesday. Revolution needs to regain some audience members if it wants a second season. With the success of The Blacklist, and Chicago Fire doing OK, Revolution is looking to be one of NBC’s weaker points right now. I can’t see it not running the full second season, but it might not get a third. Also, Ironside is definitely going to get cancelled. The premiere was so low, a...

Fall 2013 TV Report (So Far)

October 5th, 2013 2:06pm EDT
Sleepy Hollow
Here’s how the Fall TV season has been shaping up.

Sunday:

ABC doesn’t have a lot to celebrate about. Once Upon A Time and Revenge are both down season-to-season, yet up from last season’s finales. So, really, you could say they are even for the night. Their new drama, Betrayal, however is a disappointment. Low ratings. Does ABC have anything ready to replace Betrayal though? They’re already definitely going to cancel the much lower rated Lucky 7 (an almost certainty), can they afford to axe two shows?

CBS has a nice strong lineup of returning shows, all performing well. FOX’s shows are ...

TV Pilot Review: 'Hostages'

September 24th, 2013 11:41pm EDT
Hostages
CBS usually chooses more of the same every TV season, so I commend them for actually picking up a non-procedural show. I’m so pleased. Also,  I often have a hard time watching shows on CBS because I think they move really slowly. Sorry to CSI and NCIS fans, but your show bores me to death (even against other procedurals like SVU. Hostages moves at the speed of a show that could be on any other station. It’s bordering on cable quality.

Hostages presents us with a hero, Dr Ellen Sanders (Toni Collette), and a villain, FBI Agent Duncan Carlisle (Dylan McDermott). Ellen is supposed to operate ...

CBS' 'Hostages': Does It Have Your Vote?

September 24th, 2013 10:45am EDT
Hostages
CBS's newest thriller starring Toni Collette and Dylan McDermott is just like a real-life politician: slick, impeccably styled and often displays touches of brilliance.  Unfortunately, it works too hard and too fast to get your vote.

Collette plays Dr. Ellen Sanders, a surgeon who was selected to operate on the President. McDermott is a rogue FBI agent who takes her family hostage in order to force Sanders to kill POTUS during surgery.  Toss in Tate Donovan has her filandering, lying husband, and her darling children--a daughter concealing a pregnancy and a drug dealin' son--and poor Dr. S...

Sleepy Hollow
Clear out the DVR and stock up on your favorite snacks, the 2013-2014 television season has officially begun!   In addition to our favorite shows returning with new episodes, there’s also a fresh crop of new shows boasting impressive casts and intriguing plots. You can't possibly watch them all, though you might sprain a retina trying, so this Small Screen Girl is offering her choices for the Can't-Miss New Shows Of The Season (that aren't impressively-hyped “Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”).

Sleepy Hollow, FOX

Remakes are dangerous gambles.  Just ask "Wonder Woman" whose re-boo...

With the dog days of August winding down, the TV season is just around the corner with lots of new series premieres being served up. We've taken a closer look at the big networks fall offerings – here's what we think will be the top hits and misses of the new TV season.

Top 10 Hits:

Mom: Chuck Lorre is pretty close to owning CBS at this point. Even if the show is dreadful, it will still benefit from being a part of CBS’s strong Monday night lineup, and leading out from 2 Broke Girls which has evolved into a hit over the last two seasons. Plus, the addition of Anna Faris and Allison Janney...
