Fall TV 2014: A Night By Night Comparison Of What May And May Not Work

Fall TV 2014: A Night By Night Comparison Of What May And May No
Now that all the big networks have revealed what they’ll be showing us this fall, let’s take a look at what may or may not work.

SUNDAY:

ABC is essentially playing it safe, and keeping Sunday Night intact. American Crime will swap for Resurrection at midseason. Resurrection was a buzzy drama that started seeing a ratings decline. Not waiting till midseason is probably a smart move. You don’t want to lose any more audience. It’s not a winning strategy, but ABC just doesn’t want to be in last place.

NBC has football, another super safe move. CBS is shaking things up, banishing Amazing Race...

Susan Heaton After Her 'Hell's Kitchen' Elimination

July 18th, 2013 12:15pm EDT
Hell's Kitchen
When we last talked to her in April, Susan Heaton was a contender for the Hell's Kitchen title. Last week, Chef Gordon Ramsay sent her home. Susan rejoined us earlier this week to look back on the entirety of her experience in Ramsay's kitchen, and let us know what she's been doing since the competition ended.

She has no hard feelings about her departure. "I think there is always room for improvement," she reflected. "Since it was my first time working a line, and working for Chef Ramsay, I think that in retrospect I would handle my nerves better and slow down and be more assertive with my...

'Hell's Kitchen': Anthony Rodriguez After His Elimination

June 13th, 2013 10:12am EDT
Hell's Kitchen
The men keep falling on Hell's Kitchen. Last week, the cooking competition said goodbye to 27-year-old line chef Anthony Rodriguez, despite his best efforts to hold the guys' Blue Team together. Anthony joined BFTV earlier this week to discuss what went wrong, what he learned, and where he's at now that he's out of the fire.

The New Orleans native echoed earlier comments by his teammates that the Blue Team wasn't always functioning as a team. "Our communication just wasn't there. When we were in sync, we were amazing, but we lacked that constant leading voice in the kitchen to pull us all ...

May 30th, 2013 10:10am EDT
Hell's Kitchen
"I do not regret anything I did," said Nedra Harris when BFTV connected with her following her departure from FOX's Hell's Kitchen. "There is a reason for everything.  This is just the start for me."

The outspoken kitchen manager from Detroit got the axe shortly after agreeing to transfer from the women's squad to the men's roster, a move that she doesn't regret. "My proudest moment was stepping up and going to the blue team," she explained, adding that her experience on the show "made me realize that with a good team, you can do anything.  You don’t always need to do it by yourself."

"It...

Hell's Kitchen
After Amanda Giblin's exit from FOX's Hell's Kitchen, BFTV caught up with the 28-year-old executive chef from Orange County, New York to get her post-competition thoughts.

"I am a damn good sauté chef! I rocked the fish station every time I was put there. I am mostly proud to be associated with such a wonderful, strong group of women!" Amanda enthused, though she also told us, "I would have taken better control over the situation, not allowing myself to get so upset and frazzled."

What did she take away from her time in Hell's Kitchen? "I find as a Chef now, I’m more confident in my decis...

Hell's Kitchen
Last Tuesday, Jacqueline Baldassari became the next chef to be chopped from FOX's Hell's Kitchen, and she later joined BFTV to talk about it. "I watched the show on and off.  I anticipated craziness," said the 27-year-old roundsman from Florence, New Jersey. "It was up to me on how I was going to deal with it."

"I think I was a very creative and strong chef.  Every challenge I received a point," she continued, but added that "I would've liked to have become more comfortable faster. I was so nervous at first I couldn't think straight."

Nerves clearly didn't get in Jacqueline's way at least...

'Hell's Kitchen': Dan Ryan After His Elimination

Hell's Kitchen
He was the chef everyone loved to hate - now following his dismissal from Hell's Kitchen, BFTV caught up with Dan Ryan to find out if he really was that despised, and what he'll remember about his stint on the show.

First things first: Dan informed us that the vitriol audiences noticed on screen wasn't manufactured TV drama. "What you saw was definitely that accurate," he said. "There was like a gang mentality. I feel like they [the Blue Team] have a target every time. It was Jeremy [Madden], and then it was my turn, and there'll be someone else next."

Having said that, though, there are ...

Jessica Lewis was the latest chef to get axed from FOX's Hell's Kitchen - and after her elimination, the chef tournant from New York connected with BFTV to chat about her experience on the popular reality show.

"I was way quiet and should have stood up more for myself," reflected Jessica, who left after difficulties on the fish station during the dinner service in last Tuesday's episode. "I owned my mistakes, put my head down and worked - and I should have made others own their mistakes too. I am too nice to be cursing people out! It's just not me!"

Another week, another elimination on Hell's Kitchen. BFTV recently connected with last week's departing chef, Jeremy Madden - who got the axe after mistakenly sending up a sample plate - to review his time on the FOX show and found out that he's different from the person you saw on TV.

"I'm not as dumb as I looked on the show, promise," Jeremy said. "I really am a capable chef and I do know what I'm doing."

Chef Gordon Ramsay is an imposing figure on FOX's Hell's Kitchen, putting chefs to the test - and putting the incompetent and arrogant in their place. BFTV recently checked in with Chef Ramsay to get the inside dish on Season 11 of Hell's Kitchen.

Q&A: Gordon Ramsay Saves More 'Kitchen Nightmares'

Kitchen Nightmares
I'm in awe of Chef Gordon Ramsay's accomplishments, because I have no idea how he does all of them. The Michelin-starred chef visited in June to talk Masterchef and in July for Hell's Kitchen, chatted with me at FOX's TCA presentation in August, and just yesterday the network announced his next series, Hotel Hell. Just seven months after we talked about the last season of Kitchen Nightmares, he's back again to chat about the new one (starting tonight at 8 PM ET/PT on FOX). The man clearly deserves a vacation.

Ramsay's a polarizing figure: it seems you either love him or hate him. As so...

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay almost became a human kebab while shooting a documentary on Costa Rica's illegal shark fin industry when a fishmonger's henchman attempted to set him alight.

The brash Brit took a camera crew to the beaches of Costa Rica to capture the shady fishing enterprise - and he was almost killed in the process.

Ramsay tells Playboy magazine, "That was a little bit hairy... The fishmongers have these armed guards patrolling fortress-like towers, so we tried to get in and ran into a guard.

"They poured petrol all over my hair and neck and tried to set us on fire."

Summer Preview: 'MasterChef'

MasterChef
In a crowded field of TV competitive-cooking series, MasterChef is not my main course of choice, but it's certainly appetizing.

FOX knows that it's found a personality to build programming around in the legendary Gordon Ramsay, and they've given him three series on the network: Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares and Masterchef. One can't help but compare the trio. While MasterChef is far less dramatic than Hell's Kitchen, it doesn't have quite as much heart as Kitchen Nightmares; it's like the love child of the two, with middling results.

If you missed the first season, MasterChef foc...

Ramsay has now opened up about the shocking images, revealing a recent encounter with robbers in Costa Rica, who poured gas all over him, led to a nasty scalp infection.

Since saying goodbye to Scott, it appears that we've really gotten rid of some dead weight on the show, but that doesn't mean there aren't some chefs hanging on the edge.
