Richard (Edward Herrmann) has set up his own insurance consulting business. His daughter, Lorelai (Lauren Graham), offers to help him find a good secretary only to discover that Richard wants her to take the job. Meanwhile, Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) is still footing the blame for the car accident, despite Rory's (Alexis Bledel) efforts to exonerate him; the diner closes early when Luke (Scott Patterson) has "urgent business"; and Lane (Keiko Agena) is encouraged in her dream to become a rock drummer by music-store proprietor Sophie Bloom (played by Carole King, who can also be heard singing the Gilmore Girls' theme song at the beginning of each episode).
