The 19 Best Summer Television Shows Ever

May 29th, 2014 3:00pm EDT
Mad Men
Summer television has the unfair reputation of being the dumping ground for shows "not ready" for the fall or spring, or where offbeat series never take off or go to die. While shows have certainly been banished to the warmer months, dozens of classic shows either got their start or existed entirely in the summer.

Survivor

Reality TV existed before Survivor, but its success on CBS as a Summer show opened the door to every and any kind of reality TV... for better or worse. It was featured on the cover of TIME magazine and was one of the highest rated shows on television for its first ele...

Rhys Darby Confirms 'Flight Of The Conchords' Movie Plans

December 21st, 2011 7:59am EST
Rhys Darby
Comedian Rhys Darby has confirmed the Flight Of The Conchords cast is eager to reunite for a movie based on the hit TV show and may begin work on the script next year.

The series won over critics and fans alike with its 2007 debut, but New Zealand duo Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement ended the show, which also starred Darby, for good in 2009 after two seasons.

McKenzie recently hinted in an interview that a big screen adaptation was in the works, but bosses for American network HBO quashed fans' hopes by stating "There are no plans for a Flight of the Conchords movie."

However, Darby...

Flight of the Conchords
HBO would have produced more episodes of Flight of the Conchords and the fans certainly would have watched them. But the Conchords themselves decided to stop making the show after only two seasons. TV series director James Bobin also directed the Muppets movie, and he assured fans that McKenzie and Jemaine Clement will return. Not on a series, but maybe a special or a movie or something.

“I’m sure,” Bobin said. “Jemaine, Bret and I are constantly in touch. We’re good friends. It’s just a quest...

Jemaine Clement On Why There Won't Be More 'Flight Of The Conchords'

November 2nd, 2009 2:27pm EST
Flight of the Conchords
The Flight of the Conchords have sworn off a third season of their HBO show, to the dismay of their fans (they actually have more than the one played by Kristen Schaal on TV.) It's just too much work for them, says Jemaine Clement."

"It's sooo hard to get through one because you have to record two albums worth of material, and write a sitcom at the same time it would take to do an album," Clement said. "The next time, we have to write the songs as well, it's even harder. So, I don't know, it doesn't seem worth it for us, I guess. Because if we do a really great job on the third season, i...

TV Honorees That Should Get Their First Shot At Emmy Nominations

June 10th, 2009 12:02pm EDT
Aaron Paul
Yesterday, we went over the Emmy nominees who have overstayed their welcome. Those perennial TV honorees that simply don't deserve the recognition they once did or, in some cases, never did at all.

So if they're out, who's in? Surely, there can't be too many nominees waiting in the wings. After all, television professionals choose these awards; they can't possibly leave out any substantial number of qualified candidates in favor of perennial duds.

Unfortunately, that's the way it is. Voters simply don't like to change their ways with regards to voting. It almost seems that a ...

Spotlight On 'Large Pad' Comic Demetri Martin

It may seem like Demetri Martin is new to the comedy scene, but he has been involved in it for about eight years. After graduating from Yale University and dropping out of NYU's Law School, Martin pursued a career in comedy. Some highlights of his early career include writing for Late Night With Conan O'Brien and interning at and later appearing on The Daily Show. Martin has also appeared on "Comedy Central Presents."

Martin's comedy is unique but also reminiscent of the styles of Mitch Hedberg and Steven Wright. Martin frequently uses one-liners and word-play in his stand-up act as w...

Rhys Darby
On June 10, 2007, "Made in America," the final episode of The Sopranos, aired on HBO. The proverbial darkness of our television screens was not just because of that half-genius, half-absurd last scene of the Sopranos' finale. Wading through the mire of summer programming -- a hodgepodge of re-runs and reality programming -- I returned to HBO the following Sunday. I returned to find the premiere of one the oddest, weirdest, quirkiest, fun, clever, intelligent examples of television comedy that I have ever seen; while watching, my opinion of the show changed, in order, over those 23 minutes, ...

HBO has been showing new movies and producing popular television since 1977, while Showtime focused more on boxing championships and premiering impressive short independent fi...
