The 1980s sitcom Family Ties centered on a family that included two former hippies, Steven (Michael Gross) and Elyse Keaton (Meredith Baxter), and their children Alex (Michael J. Fox), a young Republican; Mallory (Justine Bateman), an underachiever; and Jennifer (Tina Yothers), who just wanted to be a normal kid. Towards the end of the series, the Keatons also welcomed Andy (Brian Bonsall) into their family.
