Each episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is self-contained and features a race against time on a project that would ordinarily take at least four months to achieve, involving a team of designers, contractors and several hundred workers who have just seven days to totally rebuild an entire house - every single room, plus the exterior and landscaping.

The lives of the lucky families are forever changed when they learn that they have been selected to have their home walls moved, their floors replaced and even their façades radically changed. The result should be a decorator's delight... if it can be done in time.

Each episode begins with team leader Ty Pennington's now-famous "Good morning!" wake-up call, when he, along with the other designers, surprises the unsuspecting family with news that their home has been chosen to receive a makeover. Then viewers witness not only the unbelievable transformation of the house, but during the final and emotional reveal, they see how the home makeover has impacted the lives of the deserving families.

The design team includes team leader and carpenter Ty Pennington, Paul DiMeo (carpentry/attitude), Paige Hemmis (carpentry/nut & bolts), Michael Moloney (interiors/glamour), Constance Ramos (building/planning), Ed Sanders (construction), Preston Sharp (exteriors/big ideas) and Eduardo Xol (landscaping), plus two new team members this season, Tanya McQueen (designer) and Daniel Kucan (designer).
Courtesy of ABC Debuting February 14, 2004, this spinoff of the popular reality series Extreme Makeover bypassed cosmetics, hairpieces, designer clothes, and (for that matter) human beings: The makeovers on this show were applied to various family homes rather than the people inside them. Under the guidance of host Ty Pennington, a team of designers, workmen and neighboring "civilians" each week took on the task of renovating an entire house in a fraction of the time that such a job would normally take. Picking out homeowners who were deserving of such an honor--usually those who were impoverished, who'd just endure the loss of a loved one, or who had proven their worth through generosity and self-sacrifice--the series' producers would bundle the owners and their families off on a luxury vaction, then go to work to perform miracles of construction and design. Among Pennington's regular team members were carpenter Paige Hemmis, interior designers Daniel Kucan and Tanya McQueen, and crewpersons Constance Ramos, Preston Sharp, Michael Maloney, Eduardo Xol, Ed Sanders, and Alle Ghadban. Like the other entries in the "Extreme Makeover" franchise, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was telecast by ABC. Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
