British Actress Kate O'Mara, Famous For Starring On ABC's 'Dynasty,' Dies At 74

Former Dynasty actress Kate O'Mara died over the weekend, succumbing to a brief illness in a nursing home in Sussex, England.

"A shining star has gone out and Kate will be dearly missed by all who knew and have worked with her," her agent, Phil Belfield, said in a statement.

O'Mara was best known for her work on the hit ABC series, one of the first 'prime time soap operas' on TV, which aired from 1981-89. She played Cassandra 'Caress' Morell, the sister of Alexis Colby (Joan Collins).

TV legend Joan Collins was taken to the hospital during the post-Oscars Vanity Fair party after her figure-hugging dress left her feeling faint.

The Dynasty star attended the magazine's bash at Hollywood's Sunset Tower Hotel in a tight-fitting lilac gown, but after mixing with A-listers for several hours, the 77 year old began to feel dizzy.

Her concerned husband Percy Gibson called an ambulance for his wife, and medics decided to rush the star to a nearby hospital for tests. Collins was relieved when doctors gave her the all-clear - and blames her corseted dress for the fuss.

Actress Stephanie Beacham has told of her terror after doctors revealed her skin cancer has returned. The Dynasty star had a brush with the disease in 2008 but assumed she was back to full health after a course of cryotherapy to freeze and remove the growth on her nose.

However, she was plunged into "horror" last month when medics revealed the cancerous cells have returned. The star is currently undergoing photodynamic therapy for basal cell carcinoma in a bid to kill off the illness.

Hit 1980s soap opera Dynasty is set to be revived for a new movie prequel.

The popular show, which ran from 1981 until 1989, focused on a rich oil family in Colorado and starred late actor John Forsythe as tycoon Blake Carrington, alongside Linda Evans and Joan Collins.
