Diff'rent Strokes is about a white widower (Conrad Bain) with a 12-year-old daughter (Dana Plato) who winds up adopting his housekeepers two black children (Todd Bridges and Gary Coleman) after she dies. The boys go from rags to riches and deal with the travails of growing up. The series aired from 1978 to 1986.
