Paley Center Unveils 'Television Out of the Box' Exhibit

April 25th, 2012 8:00am EDT
Smallville
Attention TV geeks: the Paley Center for Media has something you're going to want to see.

Long known as a hub for all things small-screen related (dating back to when it used to be called the Museum of Television & Radio), the Beverly Hills museum recently opened "Television Out of the Box," an exhibit devoted to celebrating decades of Warner Bros. television programs.

That includes popular concluded series like ER, The West Wing, Friends, Cold Case, Smallville, Seinfeld, and Deadwood, as well as current series such as Pretty Little Liars and Southland.

On my recent visit, I was able t...

Q&A: Behind The Badge With 'Psych' Star Timothy Omundson

February 29th, 2012 11:00am EST
Psych
At the beginning of this season of Psych, I chatted with Maggie Lawson -- now, as the show returns, it's time for her partner Timothy Omundson (also known as the infamous Detective Carlton Lassiter) to have his say.

While I enjoy the talents of every member of Psych's fun and funny cast, I have a certain affection for Omundson, who's made Lassiter my favorite disgruntled detective on television. His deadpan delivery and expressions are always spot-on, and he's a great straight man for the oft-hyper antics required of star James Roday.

What you might not know is that in addition to...

Spring Preview: 'Luck'

January 29th, 2012 12:45pm EST
Luck
HBO's Luck isn't accurately reflected by its title. It's much more calculated than that.

Even though the network previewed the first episode of the nine-part miniseries not so long ago, there should still be plenty of eyeballs as it officially arrives tonight, if only because of the pedigree. The series is written by David Milch, who already wowed HBO viewers with Deadwood, and directed by Michael Mann.

Its cast, led by Dustin Hoffman, is a cornucopia of familiar faces for TV buffs, including Dennis Farina (Law & Order), Jill Hennessy (Law & Order) and Richard Kind (Spin City). Even the s...

Q&A: 'Suits' Star Patrick J. Adams Returns To The Stage In '9 Circles'

November 10th, 2011 11:00am EST
Patrick J. Adams
You know him as Mike Ross on USA's new hit original series Suits. As fantastic as he is on that show, that's just one part of what the multitalented Patrick J. Adams is up to. He's currently on stage starring in the Bootleg Theater production of Bill Cain's 9 Circles, extended through November 19.

And in January, you'll see him in an ensemble cast including Dustin Hoffman in the HBO horse-racing drama Luck, written by David Milch (Deadwood) and directed by Michael Mann (Heat).

Whether it's breaking new ground as the star of a TV series, starring and producing in a play, or fitting ...

October 3rd, 2011 8:17am EDT
Izabella Miko
Although she had a stalker on Twitter, Coyote Ugly actress Izabella Miko hasn’t given up on the social network.

We caught up with the blonde beauty over the weekend and she told RumorFix exclusively she’s still trying to resolve her stalker issue from a year ago.

At the time she got a restraining order against the man who was sending sexually explicit messages to her over Twitter.

But, the Deadwood star hasn’t given up on tweeting. “It can be good and it’s fun, but you have to watch out,” she tells RumorFix.

31 Days Of Horror: 'The Crazies' (2010)

October 7th, 2010 1:23pm EDT
The Crazies (2010)
Veteran horror director George Romero won a permanent place in the horror movie hall of fame for his continually growing Living Dead series, but aside from Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, the bulk of the director’s work typically falls somewhere between middling and downright terrible. But while Romero has never been a consistent director, he has managed a perfect record of cramming blunt social commentary into just about everything he’s ever made.

Romero’s original version of The Crazies is a fever dream of government paranoia. There’s a lot of screaming and running around,...

With that in mind, here are the Ten Greatest Entert...

Why 'Southland' Is Must-See TV

April 28th, 2009 12:12pm EDT
Southland
In the past few seasons for network TV, there have been a few shows that were destined for greatness from their very first pilot episodes: Arrested Development, Desperate Housewives, Friday Night Lights, Heroes, Lost and The Office.

That's it, that's the list. And of those six shows, one was cancelled due to low ratings ("Arrested Development"), one is on life-support ("Friday Night Lights"), and two were in danger after having lost their way - no pun intended, but "Lost" managed to find its way back while "Heroes" is struggling. "Housewives" still has its foundation of viewers but is...

Is HBO Losing Its Edge?

April 14th, 2008 10:57am EDT
The Sopranos
Remember the slogan, "It's not TV, It's HBO?" Well, up until a couple months ago this marketing ploy actually rang true. HBO has long been the trendsetter of original series that break all boundaries and push audiences' perception of what television is and should be.

Unfortunately, thanks to the culminations of the network's most beloved quartet of series - Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, and most recently The Wire - the Crown Royal of premium cable programming is in threat of losing its edge over the best of the rest.

There was a time when HBO stood for first-run...

Showtime's Dexter
There's plenty to watch on network television, but we have long been living in the Golden Age of Cable. Ever since HBO told us, "It's not TV. It's HBO," we've been hooked. Ponying up the money for cable can be difficult, but these channels make it worth the price.

The Veterans:

HBO has lost many of the signature shows that made it a household name. The Sopranos, Sex and the City, Six Feet Under - they were all instrumental in defining HBO as the channel for daring, intelligent and mature programming. But don't write off the channel just yet. While its new series don't quite match the ...

He says, "They canceled Deadwood right after I bought a house, so I was going to work one way or another. I don't need to read the script. I'm in. Let's go!"
