LOS ANGELES (AP) - In one of the more spectacular examples of TV networks following a trend straight off a cliff, more than a half-dozen densely plotted new serial dramas failed this season.

NEW YORK (AP) - They premiered with high hopes - theirs and ours. This season was rife with new serialized mysteries, each of them propelled by long-range intrigue we viewers were urged to submit to.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - ABC is attempting to rescue once-hot Lost by ending the show - in 2010. Bowing to the fact that convention isn't working for the drama about plane-crash survivors on a surreal island, the network is taking the unusual step of turning ''Lost'' into a limited-run series.

An ABC spokesperson informed TV Guide of the online return dates for all 13 episodes of the Taye Diggs-starring Day Break. The schedule is as follows:

To keep Lost fans enticed until the second half of the season premieres in February 2007, ABC and ABC.com will feature "Lost Moments." Beginning Wednesday, Nov. 15, the first "Lost Moment" will premiere randomly during the new drama Day Break. Comprised of 30 seconds of never-before-seen footage of upcoming episodes, there will be a total of 12 "Lost Moments," one during each airing of "Day Break." After "Day Break" the "Lost Moments" will be available on ABC.com.

Detective Brett Hopper is having a hellacious day; the kind of day where nothing goes his way and he just can't wait to put it behind him... only he can't, because he's living the same day over and over again. Taye Diggs stars in Day Break, an action-packed thriller that takes a bad day and multiplies it by infinity, premiering Wednesday, Nov. 15, on ABC.

CBS, ABC and NBC just announced their schedules for November sweeps. During "sweeps," Nielsen Media Research sends out diaries to sample homes across the country so TV viewers can record the shows they watched. Based on these results, networks set their advertising rates. The more people watch a show, the more they can charge for the commercials during it.

ABC just announced its fall premiere dates. For the fall launch, ABC will be using the strength of its returning hits as a launching pad for new series. Kicking off the new season is Dancing with the Stars. The dates are as follows:

According to the NAACP, with the cancellation of the Bernie Mac Show, for the first time in recent history, there is not a comedy with an African-American lead character left on the big four networks. When it comes to returning sitcoms and the announced new comedies, African Americans are missing in action.
