The cameraman who was with "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin when he died in 2006 has opened up about the horrific incident for the first time.

Irwin, 44, died in the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Queensland, Australia, after he was speared in the chest by a stingray.

Camera operator Justin Lyons has confessed that he was so busy filming that he didn't realize the severity of the attack right away.

Lyons told Australia's Channel Ten the pair encountered an eight foot-wide stingray that apparently thought Irwin's shadow was a tiger shark.

The former Guns N' Roses star helped Irwin's father Bob officially unveil the Bob Irwin Wildlife Conservation Foundation at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane, Australia.

Slash is a long-time animal lover and once famously owned a large collection of snakes and other reptiles, but let them go after becoming a father.

Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin's widow broke down in tears during a recent taping of The Oprah Winfrey Show in Sydney, Australia as her young son revealed he watches videos of his late father every day.

Little Robert, who is the spitting image of his conservationist father, told Oprah and her audience that watching the footage makes him feel that his dad "is actually there".

On June 19, EMI America Records will release the late "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin's final documentary, "Ocean's Deadliest," on DVD. Steve Irwin is joined by explorer and adventurer Philippe Cousteau, grandson of the famous oceanographer Jacques Cousteau, as they explore the waters of the Great Barrier Reef, the northern Cape York Peninsular, and the Southern Ocean off South Australia.

Animal rights group (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) blasted the TV star - who was killed last Monday, aged 44, by a stingray - about his life-long work with exotic animals.

Australian naturalist Steve Irwin has died after being stung in the chest by a stingray while diving on the Great Barrier Reef early today.
