TV star Jason Beghe has slammed the controversial Church of Scientology, branding his former religion "destructive" and "dangerous". CBS has renewed 11 series for next season in a move that will return 10 hours of the Network's primetime schedule and eight of the top 20 scripted series on television.

The 11 series are Cold Case, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Ghost Whisperer, NCIS, Numb3Rs, freshman comedy The Big Bang Theory, Two And A Half Men and Without A Trace. Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominee Frankie Muniz ("Malcolm in the Middle") will guest star on Criminal Minds, Wednesday, Nov. 28 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on CBS.

Muniz will play a famous comic book artist who becomes involved in the search for a serial killer in Los Angeles.

Joe Mantegna has joined the cast of Criminal Minds, just weeks after Mandy Patinkin quit the TV drama. Patinkin left Criminal Minds after not showing up for a script read-through when he realised his case-cracking character, Jason Gideon, was being written out of the show.

To fill the void left by Patinkin, producers have now hired veteran star Mantegna, who has appeared in movies including The Godfather: Part III and the TV series Joan of Arcadia, to play a new detective character.

CBS today announced plans for the premieres of its new and returning series which includes the early debut of its freshman reality series "Kid Nation," as well as "Survivor: China" and most of its Sunday lineup during the week of Sept. 17. The Network will launch the remainder of its schedule beginning Monday, Sept. 24, the official start of the 2007-2008 season.

Actor Mandy Patinkin has caused controversy on the set of U.S. TV drama Criminal Minds by failing to show up for a script read through. Sources at TV network CBS, which airs the weekly show, claim executives could write the actor out of the upcoming third season on the series as a result of his reluctance to join his castmates.
