New TV On DVD, Feb. 12

Blade the complete series picks up Blade in his hometown of Detroit focusing on taking down the Vampire House of Chthon. Along the way he also must battle demons from his own past – some of them former friends – who remember Blade long before he was the preeminent vampire hunter. Also on DVD: season one of "The Equalizer," Tell Me You Love Me and My Boys, season three of Family Ties and Girlfriends, and season eight of Dallas.

Often we don’t realize that our favorite TV shows began as vehicles on the big screen. Many of television’s best programs started that way. Then again, so did some of the worst.

In 1974, Ellen Burstyn starred in the Oscar awarded Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. The movie was such a success that it was turned into “Alice,” complete with Vic Tayback as Mel. Unfortunately, it was Polly Holiday who made the sitcom a success. By the time she left the show and was replaced in 1980 by the original Flo, Diane Ladd, the damage had already been done. The series soon met its demise.

Spike TV Cancels 'Blade'

The TV series spin-off to the Blade franchise is officially a flop - the vampire-hunting action series has been cancelled. According to internet reports, executives at cable network Spike TV have scrapped plans to air a second season of the show.

On her blog page, disappointed star Jill Wagner writes, "I was informed today that there will be no second season of Blade the series... Thanks for the support. Hey, there is always the DVD right?"
