July 17th, 2014 2:03pm EDT
Big Bang Theory
The cast of Big Bang Theory wants big bucks to continue filming the series, and CBS only has two weeks to finalize negotiations before production of the eighth season begins.

The entire cast except Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik saw their contracts run out after the seventh season. According to Deadline, Rauch and Bialik were able to at least double their per-episode salary when they renegotiated last fall.

The previous contracts for the main cast, which includes Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, and Kaley Cuoco, were reportedly in the $300,000 per-episode range. With CBS set to make quite a b...

China Censors 'The Big Bang Theory,' Other U.S. Shows For Promot
China has pulled several U.S. shows from video streaming websites, claiming the programs contain harmful content.

The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) made the order last week to remove "The Big Bang Theory," "The Good Wife" and "NCIS," from public viewing.

It's not known exactly why the watchdog group made the move, although officials have been planning to increase censorship of foreign content, a source told The Hollywood Reporter.

There was a public outcry following the ban, prompting SAPPRFT officials to claim they pulled the programs o...

Fall TV 2014: A Night By Night Comparison Of What May And May Not Work

Fall TV 2014: A Night By Night Comparison Of What May And May No
Now that all the big networks have revealed what they’ll be showing us this fall, let’s take a look at what may or may not work.

SUNDAY:

ABC is essentially playing it safe, and keeping Sunday Night intact. American Crime will swap for Resurrection at midseason. Resurrection was a buzzy drama that started seeing a ratings decline. Not waiting till midseason is probably a smart move. You don’t want to lose any more audience. It’s not a winning strategy, but ABC just doesn’t want to be in last place.

NBC has football, another super safe move. CBS is shaking things up, banishing Amazing Race...

'The Big Bang Theory': The Itchy Brain Simulation (7x08)

November 16th, 2013 5:18pm EST
The Big Bang Theory
Not much of a fan of this one. There were a few decent jokes, but other than that not much happened.

The plot is as follows: Leonard finds an old DVD that was rented on Sheldon's account, and Sheldon tells Leonard that he won't freak out about it if he finds a way to return the DVD. The catch? He has to wear an itchy sweater while he does so, to really understand how uncomfortable Sheldon can get when things are unresolved. The video store has gone out of business and the owner has died, so Leonard tries and tries to figure out a way to solve the problem. Sheldon eventually tells Leonard t...

'The Big Bang' Theory: The Proton Displacement (7x07)

November 8th, 2013 11:20pm EST
The Big Bang Theory
Unfortunately, I'm going to be pretty hard on this episode. It wasn't completely awful, but it was completely bland. On top of that, almost everything they did in this episode has already been done by this show in the past, and it didn't feel like there was even an attempt at originality going on here.

The plot: Sheldon, Leonard, and Amy run into Bob Newhart - I mean, uh, Dr. Jeffries (aka Professor Proton). Later, Jeffries asks Leonard for help on a paper he's writing, and Sheldon takes offense that he asked Leonard instead of him. In retaliation, he finds a new celebrity science friend -...

The Big Bang Theory: The Workplace Proximity (7x05)

The Big Bang Theory
This episode was built around a simple premise, which usually makes for a focused story and some good jokes. However, I felt like a lot of the potential of this story was lost. There was nothing flat out terrible about it, but I just didn't really enjoy it the way I wanted to.

Basically, Amy gets an opportunity to work at Caltech, and she checks with Sheldon to make sure he's okay working in such close proximity to her. He says yes initially, but a conversation with Howard changes his mind. Essentially, Howard says that spending that much time with Amy is bound to annoy him, just like it w...

TV Ratings: The Season Started With A 'Bang'

October 6th, 2013 11:32am EDT
'The Big Bang Theory'
‘The Big Bang Theory’ started the TV ratings season with a, well, bang. In its return, the show logged more than 20 million viewers, almost a record for the show. A second episode nabbed 19 million. Riding on the show’s coattails, Robin Williams’ new ‘The Crazy Ones’ was easily Fall’s most-watched premiere with 15.5 million viewers.

By comparison, ‘The Michael J. Fox Show’ on NBC was seen by a half that audience in its first airing, but it still built on its ‘Parks & Recreation’ lead-in. Nevertheless, NBC did have the week’s top show with NFL Sunday Night Football, which ranked ahead of bo...

Fall 2013 TV Report (So Far)

October 5th, 2013 2:06pm EDT
Sleepy Hollow
Here’s how the Fall TV season has been shaping up.

Sunday:

ABC doesn’t have a lot to celebrate about. Once Upon A Time and Revenge are both down season-to-season, yet up from last season’s finales. So, really, you could say they are even for the night. Their new drama, Betrayal, however is a disappointment. Low ratings. Does ABC have anything ready to replace Betrayal though? They’re already definitely going to cancel the much lower rated Lucky 7 (an almost certainty), can they afford to axe two shows?

CBS has a nice strong lineup of returning shows, all performing well. FOX’s shows are ...

'The Big Bang Theory': The Scavenger Vortex (7x03)

The Big Bang Theory
Cute episode! Probably the strongest one of the season so far. It made a smart decision by sticking to a simple premise and milking it for all it was worth. There were really no parallel plot lines going on, because the entire group was all involved in the same story, making it well-focused and fun.

Raj decides to set up a scavenger hunt as a fun activity for all of the friends. (His murder mystery dinner party idea didn't go over so well). So, he sets up ten clues and says that at the end, the winning team will find a gold coin hidden somewhere in the city. As he announces the scavenger h...

'The Big Bang Theory': The Deception Verification (7x02)

The Big Bang Theory
While not as strong as the premiere, this episode still had some good stuff going on. Leonard comes back early from his trip, but in an effort to spend a few days with Penny alone, he hides in her apartment and doesn't tell Sheldon that he's home. Sheldon suspects that Penny is being unfaithful to Leonard when he notices strange signs of a guest in her apartment. However, when he tries to catch her in the act, he sees Leonard.

This causes some drama in the Leonard and Sheldon friendship, and Sheldon feels betrayed by Leonard's lie. This entire betrayal thing is especially effective because...

This was actually a fantastic opening episode. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Leonard is still at sea, and after Sheldon has a nightmare about him getting eaten by a kraken, he spends the night at Penny's house. The two of them spend time together and after calling Leonard and discovering that he's at a party, Penny is upset that Leonard doesn't seem to be missing her. Sheldon and Penny start telling secrets to each other that nobody else knows. Penny talks about a cheap horror film she once did, and Sheldon says that he saw that. Howard found it right after meeting her. Sheldon then reveals his...

The CW and CBS are complete opposites. The CW shouldn't be in business, and CBS is THE business. The CW aims for teenagers to lose their sh!t on social media. CBS aims for the median age of the people in my office. I've never understood the Blue Bloods audience more than in the last year. My interest in The CW is odd and possibly unhealthy. It didn’t hurt that it broadcast the NCAA championship game, which yielded 23.43 million viewers as the week’s top program. Otherwise, ‘NCIS’ and its spinoff ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ were typically terrific. Other shows from CBS in the Top 20 included ’60 Minutes,’ ‘The Good Wife’ and ‘The Big Bang Theory.’ The impressive part? Some of those were reruns.
