Prolific TV Producer Stephen Cannell Dies

Hollywood screenwriter and "The A-Team" producer Stephen Cannell has lost his battle with skin cancer at the age of 69.

The star died on Thursday at his home in California, with his wife of 46 years, Marcia, by his side.

A statement released by the producer's family reads: "Stephen J. Cannell passed away at his home in Pasadena on Thursday evening due to complications associated with melanoma. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones.

"Stephen was the pillar of strength within his family and he touched everyone he met. He will be most deeply missed."

Man Says ABC, Touchstone Stole His 'Lost' Idea

According to TMZ, Anthony Spinner, a producer on "Baretta" and "Babes in Toyland," says in a lawsuit that in the 1970s he was paid $30,000 to write a TV pilot, which eventually became a 121-page script called "Lost."

Spinner is suing ABC and Touchstone Television, claiming the network passed on the show in 1977, 1991 and 1994 only to create an exact replica with Touchstone in 2004. Spinner is suing for damages and a cut of royalties, profits and more. He tried to sue a few years ago, but the case was dismissed for procedural reasons.

1940s Director Vincent Sherman Dies at 99

Hollywood filmmaker Vincent Sherman died on Sunday night of natural causes - just one month ahead of his 100th birthday. The acclaimed director dominated cinema in the 1940s and 1950s before being ostracized for his suspected communist sympathies. He later went on to direct a string of hugely successful TV series including The Waltons and Baretta.

Aside from his string of hit films, Sherman was famed for romancing his leading ladies, including Bette Davis, Rita Hayworth and his three-movie dalliance with Joan Crawford.
