'Banshee' Season 2 Finale: Just Right and Shattering

March 14th, 2014 11:00pm EDT
Banshee
Well, with the excellent second season of Banshee now complete, I can offer a review with no spoilers whatsoever, because you presumably saw what I'll be talking about. Or, if you need to see it, you should, and you'll be glad you did.

Among the most effective parts of the Season 2 finale -

Emmett and his wife getting gunned down by the neo-Nazis was pure what-a-rotten world we live in, and tough to see. There was almost a mystical element in this - for all of its violence, there's also almost a protective magic around Banshee's law enforcement people, that somehow allows them to esc...

'Banshee' Season 2 Finale: Sneak Preview Review

March 10th, 2014 10:00pm EDT
Banshee
Continuing with my sneak preview reviews of Banshee - this time, episode 2.10, the season 2 finale, set to air March 14, 2014 - courtesy of a screener disk provided by HBO/Cinemax. As always, these reviews will deal in generalities and avoid specific spoilers.

As I've hinted at and even said point blank in previous reviews, this finale is fabulous, in terms of action, surprises, and changes that will affect all of Banshee that comes after. In short, it is one best season finales of any series I've seen, and is well worth waiting for.

One way of telling you what the finale is about without...

'Banshee' Season 2 Episode 9: Sneak Preview Review

March 5th, 2014 7:45pm EST
Banshee
Continuing with my sneak preview reviews of Banshee - this time, episode 2.9, set to air March 7, 2014 - courtesy of a screener disk provided by HBO/Cinemax. As always, these reviews will deal in generalities and avoid specific spoilers.

It is often observed - at least, by me - that the penultimate or next-to-last episode of a season is even better than the finale. Having seen the season 2 finale of Banshee - which I'll sneak preview review for you after 2.9 airs this Friday - I can tell you the finale is mind-blowing and better than 2.9. But 2.9 lays down and builds up the groundwork for ...

'Banshee' 2.8: Sneak Preview Review

February 21st, 2014 11:00pm EST
Banshee
Continuing with my sneak preview reviews of Banshee - this time, episode 2.8, set to air February 28, 2014 - courtesy of a screener disk provided by Starpulse. As always, these reviews will deal in generalities and avoid specific spoilers.

Racism is the theme of this episode of Banshee - with an escalation of Hood's attack on Proctor - in two separate threads of the story.

Among the most significant elements -

- Someone we haven't seen hurt before gets punched out in the street and ends up in the hospital
- Someone we haven't seen under arrest before ends the episode screaming in handcuf...

'Banshee' Season 2 Episode 7: Sneak Preview

February 19th, 2014 9:00pm EST
Banshee
Continuing with my sneak preview reviews of Banshee - this time, episode 2.7, set to air February 21, 2014 - courtesy of a screener disk provided by HBO/Cinemax. As always, these reviews will deal in generalities and avoid specific spoilers.

Revenge is the theme of this episode of Banshee - revenge for what happened to young Hood at the end of 2.6.

Proctor is actually a far more effective enemy to Hood than Rabbit has been - because Proctor is younger, just as tough, and at least as smart as Rabbit. Proctor has been strengthening his ties with Alex all season, and this continues in 2.7, ...

Demetrius Grosse Talks Season 2 Of Cinemax's 'Banshee'
Cinemax's Banshee is back for another season of unflinching small-town drama, and BFTV recently had the chance to catch up with one of the folks in the line of fire. Demetrius Grosse plays Deputy Emmett Yawners, and he talked with us about what Emmett is about to face, the past roles he still remembers, and another uncompromising show that struck a chord with him.

What can we expect from Emmett in the rest of the season? "I'd say keep an eye out for episodes seven and eight when Emmett and the Nazis in Banshee confront each other again," Demetrius told us. "There was a bit of that in seaso...

'Banshee' Season 2 Episode 5: Sneak Preview

Banshee
Continuing with my sneak preview reviews of Banshee - this time, episode 2.5, set to air February 7, 2014 - courtesy of a screener disk provided by HBO/Cinemax. As always, these reviews will deal in generalities and avoid specific spoilers.

Among the highlights of Banshee 2.5:

Well, episode 2.5 is such a different, ethereal, half-dreamlike, but ultimately scalding reality kind of Banshee that I'm going to dispense with the bullets, and go discursive, after just this one bullet -

a major character introduced just this season dies

And the rest of the story ... well, it consists of ...

'Banshee' Season 2 Episode 4: Sneak Preview Review

Banshee
Continuing with my sneak preview reviews of Banshee - this time, episode 2.4, set to air January 31, 2014 - courtesy of a screener disk provided by HBO/Cinemax. As always, these reviews will deal in generalities and avoid specific spoilers.

Among the highlights of Banshee 2.4, which in general was a great episode as far as plot development and keen phrases from characters:

The murderer of the Kinaho girl is identified and brought to justice, by more than one hand.

One of the best outfits for Job, who delivers some of his best lines, too.

Young Hood gets some good advice, and some good...

'Banshee' Season 2 Episode 3: Sneak Preview

Banshee
Continuing with my sneak preview reviews of Banshee - this time, episode 2.3, set to air January 24, 2014 - courtesy of a screener disk provided by HBO/Cinemax.  As always, these reviews will deal in generalities and avoid specific spoilers.

Among the highlights of Banshee 2.3:

The action picks up - if that's possible, given the intense action including beatings in every episode of Banshee - but episode 2.3 has a flat-out brutal murder, and thus sets in motion something of a classic whodunnit.  Suspects abound.

The conflict between the Indians (Alex) and Amish (Proctor) picks up.  And,...

December 26th, 2013 9:18am EST
Banshee
I just saw Banshee 2.1 - the first episode of the new second season, to air on Cinemax on January 10, 2014 - courtesy of a screener from Starpulse. Here's a brief review, with no specific spoilers:

All major characters return, in the same condition they were in at the end of the first season.

Hood sleeps with an unlikely beauty - her initiative.

Zeljko Ivanek's on board as a new character - a Fed interrogator.

A few more words about Ivanek - he's starred in either series-wide or more limited arc roles in more gritty television dramas in the past few years than I can keep track of, i...
