'Awkward' Season 4 Episode 10 Recap: 'Snow Job'

June 18th, 2014 1:26pm EDT
'Awkward' Season 4 Episode 10 Recap: 'Snow Job'
Famed theologian Martin Luther (most known for posting his ideas on a church door) once said, “A lie is like a snowball. The longer it is rolled on the ground the larger it becomes.” Eva’s mounting lies created a whole snowstorm, figuratively, of course. However, I wouldn’t put it past her in the literal sense. Hence “Awkward” season 10 mid- season finale ep title “Snow Job.” Eva, or should I say Amber (more on that later) certainly put in work to distance Matty from his friends snow pile of evidence against the master manipulator.

Starting with Sadie, who got kicked off the cheese bus hea...

'Awkward' Season 4 Episode 9 Recap: My Personal Statement
It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: when Jenna sheds her insecure skin and owns Jenna 2.0 that’s been fighting to come out all senior year. Well, she finally made an appearance and left Sadie speechless and Eva pissed off, in the process.

Let’s dive into "Awkward’s" penultimate ep, “Personal Statement,” which kicks off with Jenna traipsing confidently around her house flaunting a collegiate scarf. A hopeful fashion statement for pulling the trigger on her college app submissions later on that night, but still makes a mental checklist of her qualifications (grades ✓extra-curricular ...

6 Ways 'Awkward's' Eva Maneuvered A Matty Hook-Up

June 11th, 2014 9:24am EDT
MTV
Now that MatEva is an official thing (ewww, I know) or at least seems to be, me thinks Eva’s more the D.T.F girl, rather than the D.T.R type chick. Either way her mission to land a McKibben is pretty, much accomplished, but not without some manipulative maneuvering to get there. So, here we trace the 6 scheming steps Eva took to snag Matty.

1. For starters, she drove a wedge between Matty’s friends-with-benefits, sometime girlfriend, let’s just be friends partner Jenna. One startling example: Jenna looked to Eva for some girl counseling on Matty’s one word text to her, and she makes matter...

'Awkward' Season 4 Episode 8 Recap: Prison Breaks

'Awkward' Season 4 Episode 8 Recap: Prison Breaks
Just when we thought Matty and Jake were the only ones on legal lockdown, Jenna, Luke and Tamara created their own version of being under lock and key in "Prison Breaks" ep.

We pick up where we left off: six happy couples crowding Tamara’s car are replaced with two mopping singles just shy of an Adele-like meltdown. Shaking off Matty’s verbal sting, Jenna offers to get all their grooves back with an impromptu college tour of hotties. Sadie blows off the rebound road trip whereas Tamara is 100 percent down to go; given her lifeline/stalker feed (her phone for those wondering) has been stole...

'Awkward' Season 4 Episode 7 Recap: After Hours

'Awkward' Season 4 Episode 7 Recap: After Hours
How long before Matty’s spiral of destructive acts comes to a halt? If I were a betting woman I’d say the season finale. Until then, his latest night life adventure lands him in the clink alongside Jake. Jenna can’t shake her feelings for Matty and another two-some has changed their relationship status to single on Facebook.

“After-Hours” opens as a horror movie, okay, my own version of terror: Jenna’s working on math equations, but more or less reciting “1+1.” And we all know that extra numeral is … come on where there is an open book there he’ll be; Luke. The study session quickly turns ...

'Awkward' Season 4 Episode 6 Recap: Crowning Glory

'Awkward' Season 4 Episode 6 Recap: Crowning Glory
Guess we can officially crown Jenna and Luke ‘shippers ‘cause nothing constitutes a D.T.R more than a pumpkin spice latte and bouquet of flowers. Other “crown-worthy”--hence the ep’s title --moments to note is Matty’s public confession and Jake’s catfish heartbreak. Let’s break it down.

Jenna 2.0 is in full effect with Luke by her side and the couple’s favorite aphrodisiac, books, sprawled on his bed. Jenna 2.0 can tots go on romantic rendezvous without parental permission. Curfew, you ask? What’s a curfew when your besties are in charge? Welp, it still means something to “Kev,” whose cal...

'Awkward' Season 4, Episode 5 Recap: 'Overnight'
Fasten your seatbelts; it’s going to be a bumpy night, for some more than others (heehee). Jenna and Tamara discover their college selves. NEWSFLASH: they couldn’t be more different. Matty continues to self-medicate on his adoption woes and Lacey has a super fun frat party night.

Let’s dive in; the “Overnight” ep opens with Tamara and Jenna multitasking: combing Southern Coast University campus for hotties while simultaneously quizzing each other on their college interviews. Tamara’s “in” will be her name (Talent, Ambition, Mindfulness, Ability, Reflection and Acronyms) her usual go-to met...

Brett Davern Returns To Win 2014 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race
Brett Davern has definitely left his mark on the auto racing world. After a surprising second-place finish last year, Brett returned to put our jaws on the floor again as he was named champion of the 2014 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race. While he proved on Saturday that he has as much racing talent as he does acting talent, BFTV was on hand to document Brett's climb to the top. We also checked back in with Cole Hauser, Rutledge Wood and Tricia Helfer to talk about how they fared behind the wheel.

Brett represents everything that's fantastic about the Pro/Celebrity Race. In 2013, he came in and r...

'Awkward' Review: Episode 'Taking Sides'

November 6th, 2013 8:46am EST
Awkward
The fallout continues. Jenna Hamilton, the once likeable protagonist of Awkward, carries on with her transformation into a complete monster. The show is all too happy to portray Jenna as the villain of her own story. As if cheating on her almost perfect boyfriend with no regard to his feelings wasn’t bad enough, her character has begun to take on new negative attributes as if they were accessories on her new look.

It’s been 3 weeks since the break up and Jenna has comfortably moved on with Collin. Her friends and family, however, can’t bring themselves to make that step so quickly. Jenna’s...

Awkward Review Episode “And Then What Happened”

October 30th, 2013 7:52am EDT
Awkward
“I am an a-hole, a cheater, and a liar. And everyone hates me.” Within the first two minutes, Jenna sums up her situation pretty clearly. She, a character who held viewer’s sympathy for years, has become everything she never was. Anybody who has been watching and enjoying Awkward for this long is going to take a side and perhaps feel disappointed and as upset with Jenna’s actions as she is with herself. So it was smart for the show to spend more time with the side characters digesting what happened than to stick with Jenna and/or Matty as they wallow in self pity.

The storytelling device o...

'Awkward' Review: Episode 'The Gift'

October 23rd, 2013 8:46am EDT
Awkward
On the first half of season three, Awkward’s constantly worrying protagonist, Jenna, devolved from a thoughtful but invisible girl to an extremely unlikeable character. Her thoughts became solely about her own actions and feelings, lacking the empathy she felt in the first two seasons. Then she cheated on Matty, who spent the entire season proving that he was a fantasy boyfriend, with Collin, a guy who was mysterious to her simply because he took writing classes and cared about art. Way to be a cliché, Jenna.

Too bad the midseason premiere had to begin with everybody celebrating Jenna. It’...
