Coco Rocha Biography
Birth Name: Coco Rocha
An Irish-Canadian beauty, Coco Rocha conquered the modeling world while setting her sights on even bigger goals. Born Sept. 10, 1988 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Mikhaila Rocha was discovered by a modeling scout whose daughter participated alongside Rocha in Irish dancing competitions. Although she lacked knowledge of the fashion industry, the beautiful model quickly began rising through the ranks, drawing praise from tastemakers and legends such as Naomi Campbell. She was crowned one of the new crop of supermodels in what Vogue dubbed "the Coco moment" when she Irish danced down the runway to open and close Jean Paul Gaultier's Scottish-inspired fall 2007 runway show. Impressing many with her intelligence and activist spirit, Rocha wrote an open letter to the New York Times, decrying the modeling world's encouragement of eating disorders and spoke and wrote frequently on the subject of healthy body image. Booking countless covers and advertising campaigns, the popular Rocha also made an appearance as herself in the Vogue documentary "The September Issue" (2009), started her own clothing line called Rococo, and served as a guest judge on "America's Next Top Model" (UPN, 2003-06; The CW, 2006- ), where host Tyra Banks referred to her as the "Queen of Posing." Rocha rose to the next level as one of the three supermodel coaches (Rocha, Karolina Kurkova and Naomi Campbell) on the reality competition "The Face" (Oxygen, 2013- ).
