Q&A: 'The Cabin In the Woods' Stars Fran Kranz And Kristen Connolly Discuss Joss Whedon And Acting In Horror

April 12th, 2012 6:00pm EDT
Kristen Connolly
When Fran Kranz and Kristen Connolly first signed on for the Joss Whedon-penned horror flick The Cabin in the Woods, they immediately knew they were going to be part of something special. Helmed by Drew Goddard making his directorial debut, the film tells the story of five college friends who travel to a remote cabin in the woods for a relaxing weekend getaway. They soon discover unimaginable terrors there, and together they must survive long enough to learn the truth behind the mysterious cabin.

Originally shot in 2009 under MGM, the film sat on the shelf for two years because the studi...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'The Cabin In The Woods,' 'Three Stooges' & More

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies
My high hopes for the fourth “American Pie” movie were dashed after I saw “American Reunion.” There was plenty of 90s nostalgia and some of the trademark humor that you love from the franchise, but on the whole the film was pretty depressing. For more of my thoughts, check out the full review.

Dropping in at the box office this week are the Joss Whedon penned horror film “The Cabin in the Woods,” the modern-day take on a classic comedy trio in “The Three Stooges,” the action packed sci-fi movie “Lockout,” the African American kidnapping thriller “Woman Thou Art Loosed: On the 7th Day,” ...

We talked about her book, her connection to the cult classic “Army of Darkness,” and about this season of “The Walking Dead.” If you haven’t seen my interview yet, definitely check it out.

This week you’ll have the opportunity to see the “American Pie” gang back together again in “American Reunion,” the college comedy “Damsels in Distress,” the Morgan Spurlock documentary “Comic-Co...

Kevin Smith was conveniently kicked off of a flight over the weekend, allowing everyone in America to read his name in a paper or on a blog just in time for his new film, "Cop Out," in theaters February 26.

I'm not saying he got kicked off the flight on purpose, but perhaps his subconscious allowed him to put on the few extra pounds it took to get a pilot all riled up. Smith has flown Southwest before and never had a problem. He is currently challenging the airline to prove that he was really a safety risk, which will cost them a $10,000 donation to charity, should they fail. I would get...

Whedon Gives Satisfying Conclusion In 'Dollhouse' Series Finale

February 1st, 2010 11:39am EST
Dollhouse finale
Well, here it is. The end of "Dollhouse." Let's talk for a minute about this doomed-to-start-with show. A lot of fans want to blame FOX solely because of how the studio has canceled two of Joss Whedon's shows. They certainly did not give it much of a chance by putting it on Friday at the death slot, but they did give it two seasons and some reasonable marketing to try and get a bigger audience. It never had the ratings, and let's face it, the first season wasn't as good as it should have been. Most of the first episodes were weak, and you could argue that it was from FOX changing Whedon's "...

There was a bit of exciting news this week for Joss Whedon fans, since it seems he is meeting with FX to discuss the possibility of a show. "Dollhouse" lovers should not get their hopes up; it is not likely to be this show, even if that would be kind of exciting. Fans have always said that Whedon should try cable networks, although Sci-Fi honestly would be the best choice for him. Still, this could mean good things for the Whedonites ... but "Dollhouse" is almost dead. And like the past eight episodes or so, the show enjoys making us regret every second of its demise by being fantastic. And...

Joss Whedon has a fiercely loyal and loving fanbase, and it is occasionally an abusive relationship. He likes to destroy characters that the fans love so the pain is fresh and unique, and he likes to throw twists at us that stab our hearts. It happened all the time on "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," like when Buffy had to stab Angel, or Tara was shot through the window, or in "Angel" when Fred was turned into Illyria or Doyle sacrificed his life, or then in "Serenity" when Wash became a victim of the Reavers, and finally when the only sweet character in "Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" was accid...

Dear Santa:

I don't believe one can ever be too old to believe in the magic and spirit of the holiday season, nor do I believe one shouldn't be able to ask for something they want. So keeping that in mind, here is my not-so grown-up Christmas list!

Is it just me, Santa, or is it really annoying when a studio puts out the first season or two of a favorite old show on DVD just to see what kind of response it will get but then makes...

Fox has a history of messing with Joss Whedon shows, and while they respectfully gave him a second season for "Dollhouse," they still enjoy mixing up his episodes. Last week's episode 'Belle Chose' was supposed to be the second week, but they pushed it to the third instead. Why? Honestly I have no idea. This is a far superior episode to last week's Crazy Mama scenario, and it makes a lot more sense since it gets into Ballard's trouble with being a handler. What's done is done, but this episode is a sign that the show is picking up.
