Here's What Not To Expect From 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'

4/8/2015 6:29pm EDT
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon says that there's no way he can top the post-credits scene from the first Avengers film, during which the exhausted Marvel superhero squad chows down on shawarma after saving the world from destructiona, so there won't be a post-credits scene at the end of next month's sequel.

"It didn't seem to lend itself in the same way, and we wanted to be true to what felt right," he tells Entertainment Weekly. "The first rule of making a sequel is take the best moments and do something else. Don't do the Indiana Jones gun trick again differently. Just go s...

Tom Hiddleston Sends Joss Whedon A 'Transatlantic Fist Bump' With Sincere Email 'Thank You' Note

7/31/2014 10:17am EDT
Hiddleston & Whedon
Images have emerged on Reddit of an email correspondence between British actor Tom Hiddleston and director Joss Whedon.

The email is a 'thank you' from Hiddleston, who sent it to Whedon after reading over the entire 'The Avengers' script. Evidently, Hiddleston was absolutely thrilled by the way Whedon wrote Loki, so much so that it prompted an excited response from God of mischief himself.

His praise was highly British, writing "It's high operatic villainy... it's grand and epic and majestic and poetic and lyrical and wicked and rich and badass and might possibly be the most gloriously f...

Scarlett Johansson
Director Joss Whedon and the producers of The Avengers: Age of Ultron are working on a plan to keep Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow from having a baby bump.

It was reported yesterday Johansson was pregnant with her first child with fiancé Romain Dauriac, and some outlets claimed Scarlett could be five months pregnant. That bit of news could be a problem for the svelte and cat suit-wearing Black Widow.

If Johansson has been pregnant for this long, it's possible she let producers know some time ago and a contingency plan is already in place. A source has told E! the studio will fast-track ...

Celebrities That Turn 50 In 2014

Sandra Bullock
Welcome to day two of 2014! Looking back in time 50 years ago, the year was 1964. Major events of that year included President Johnson being re-elected by a landslide over Barry Goldwater. The investigation of John F. Kennedy's assassination by the Warren Commission concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the killing of the President. In the civil rights movement, three workers were murdered in Mississippi during the "Freedom Summer," and Anchorage, Alaska was hit by a massive earthquake.

In pop culture, Beatlemania had officially hit North America and on February 9 of that year, s...

'Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.': The Best New Show Of The Fall Season

9/25/2013 9:57am EDT
Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Today is good: a Joss Whedon series is back in primetime.

Unlike his last two series, Firefly and Dollhouse, no reports of the network ordering a re-shot pilot hit the Deadlines and TVLines of the internet. Joss Whedon directed one of the biggest movies of all-time (2012's The Avengers); now, he pretty much runs Marvel Studios. He polishes Captain America and Thor and oversees the biggest brand of Marvel right now--The Avengers. Critics and bloggers didn't doubt Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would get ordered to series. Critics and bloggers wondered when they'd get to watch the first episode. Jos...

Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Avengers 2 may not grace our movie screens until 2015, but sci-fi master Joss Whedon is keeping busy – at least on the small screen with Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Aside from being of the most anticipated pilots of the season, the series focuses on a special group of skilled individuals who come together and work to keep the world safe while the superheros are fighting to save the day.

So what can we expect? We were lucky enough to have the opportunity at Comic Con to sit down with the master himself for a brief interview. Watch the full interview below for Whedon’s thoughts on what f...

Director Joss Whedon surprised fans by showing a teaser trailer for "The Avengers 2" which reveals that the new villain is Ultron -- a creation of Dr. Hen...

Scattered Thoughts About Joss Whedon's 'Much Ado About Nothing'

7/5/2013 3:36pm EDT
Joss Whedon
I watched Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing over a week ago and didn't write a review, so I wrote scattered thoughts about it instead because I admire both Joss and William Shakespeare.

-The story about Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing production can found anywhere on the internet. Whedon got his friends together, some cameras, and filmed a wonderful adaptation of one of William Shakespeare's better comedies. Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing stood as thee adaptation of the play, in my opinion. His Benedick and Emma Thompson's Beatrice are wonderfully portrayed;...

7 Other Shakespeare Plays Joss Whedon Should Direct Besides 'Much Ado About Nothing'

6/7/2013 11:03am EDT
Much Ado About Nothing
Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing, starring his friends, opens in select cities today. Whedon's Sunday afternoon Shakespeare readings have been going on since the days of Buffy. Various actors gathered at the Whedon home to read various Shakespeare plays, which must've been delightful. Now that Joss has adapted a play with his friends for the cinema, what's stopping him, besides an insanely busy schedule that includes a TV series, comics, keeping an eye on various Marvel projects, and that little Avengers sequel, from directing stage productions of Shakespeare twice a year? He can get hi...

5/15/2013 12:07pm EDT
Agents of SHIELD
The funny thing about comic book characters is that they rarely stay dead for long.

Agent Phil Coulson, despite getting stabbed in the back in The Avengers and dying in the arms of Nick Fury, has returned to the world of the living and will play a huge role in the upcoming TV series Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

At first it was believed the series would take place before the events of The Avengers, but it becomes clear that this is post-New York invasion when an interviewed agent describes himself as "Clearance Level 6" and explains that he knows Coulson was killed.

That's when Coulson...

At least Katherine Jenkins had someone paint her burlap sack before she wore it.

A little early in the year for Nadine Velazquez bare her belly, a...

Joss Whedon: 'I'd Direct 'Star Wars' If I Wasn't Directing 'The Avengers' Sequel'

1/14/2013 6:07pm EST
Joss Whedon
Joss Whedon would love to work on the next installment in the Star Wars series, but he has an enviable problem: He's already working on the sequel to The Avengers.

Whedon mused to CNN, "I'm as angry as you should be. When I heard [about 'Star Wars'] I was like, 'I wonder ... no, I really can't do that. Oh, I already have a job.' I wouldn't clear the 'Avengers.' I'm having so much fun with that sequel right now, just with the script, that I couldn't imagine not doing it."

The Avengers sequel, which is thought to have nemesis Thanos at its center (he's shown during a credits sequence), is d...

8/30/2012 4:07pm EDT
The Walking Dead
Expectations are high for Joss Whedon's SHIELD live-action superhero series. While animated series based on comics have flourished ever since Batman: The Animated series broke onto the scene in the early 90s, live-action shows based on comic books are hit-or-miss. They require a larger budget to showcase super powers and outlandish costumes and mutants. Despite this, we were able to point out the five best live action TV shows based on comics - and managed to cut down the worst to five.

The Best:

1. The Incredible Hulk: This TV took its comic book source seriously, and the show profited...

The Joss Whedon-helmed series ran for 144 episodes between March 1997 and May 2003, and is number one on Entertainment Weekly's new poll. The show was a mixture of drama, comedy, romance, action, and horror.

"Buffy" centered on the exploits of its titular vampire slayer, a mystical "Chosen One" living in Sunnydale, Calif., an idyllic small town situated atop the mouth to hell. Buffy (Sarah...

If you saw The Cabin in the Woods several times in theaters like I did, then you also can’t get enough of Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon’s horror masterpiece. One of the best parts about their intriguing flick is noticing more nods to genre classics and jokes with each viewing.

Whedonites Assemble For 'Joss Whedon: The Complete Companion'

6/5/2012 1:12pm EDT
Whedon Companion Cover
Joss Whedon is finally receiving the widespread recognition he deserves as a writer, director, and producer. We have his hit 2012 flicks The Avengers and The Cabin in the Woods to thank for that. Before Whedon achieved mainstream success though, he already had a rabid cult following. His admirers endlessly analyze the television shows, comics, and films that he creates. Heck, my alma mater even has a class exclusively on his show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Leveraging Whedon’s devotees, Titan Books and the magazine Pop Matters have distilled fan commentary into a single book entitled Joss Whe...

5/7/2012 10:19am EDT

Joss Whedon's The Avengers has drawn criticism from several Bollywood stars disappointed over the depiction of India in the superhero blockbuster.

The star-studded Marvel epic opens with scenes in which Hulk's alter ego Dr. Bruce Banner, played by Mark Ruffalo, hides in the slums of Kolkata curing lepers.

The film has opened well in the country but some members of India's film industry have expressed disappointment that the scenes, which were actually shot in New Mexico, zeroed in on squalor.

Actor Rituparna Sengupta tells The Hindustan Times, "Kolkata has a rich culture and heritage, an...

The answer to your burning question about “The Avengers” is a resounding “Yes.” If you’re into movies or comics, you’ve anxiously awaited its arrival since 2008’s “Iron Man,” which first hinted that an Avengers film was in the works. After four years and four more Marvel movies, you’ve been wondering “Will it live up to the hype?” Rest assured, not only does director/writer Joss Whedon’s flick live up to the hoopla, “The Avengers” surpasses it.

'The Avengers' Joss Whedon Does Marvel's Super Heroes Proud

4/30/2012 11:18am EDT
'The Avengers'
'The Avengers' written and directed by Joss Whedon (Cabin In The Woods) has not one, not two, but six super heroes, who, under the leadership of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), director of the international peacekeeping agency, S.H.I.E.L.D. come together to save the planet of course.

And thanks to the spot on direction of Mr. Whedon and his production team, they do it brilliantly. The film, shot in 3D, works on every level.

Not to spoil anything, here are the broad strokes.

Loki (Tom Hiddleston) Thor's bro, who many of us met in the 2011 film entitled 'Thor', is still up to no good.

Q&A: Dance-Pop Sensation Kimberly Cole On Music, Acting and Twitter

4/19/2012 4:15am EDT
Kimberly Cole
When my friend Jesse Blaze Snider had great things to say about Kimberly Cole during our recent interview, I was curious to meet her. I have a great respect for him, so if he admired her, I figured she was a person I ought to meet.

I wasn't disappointed. Like Jesse, Kimberly is a multi-talented performer, having been not only a musician, but also an actress, TV hostess and competitive roller skater. That's not just multiple talents, but that's a lot of very different skills to learn.

Beyond that, though, she has a wonderful personality that defines the word "bubbly." She's an avid socia...

'The Cabin In The Woods' Turns The Horror Genre On Its Head

4/14/2012 10:00am EDT
'The Cabin In The Woods
'The Cabin in the Woods,' written by Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer & Avengers) and Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) who also directed, is one of the most clever horror films I've seen in a really long time.

Without giving too much away, here's the scenario: Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods and really horrible things start to happen to them. But trust me, it's not what you think or what you've come to expect from your classic horror film.

For me, the highlight of the film involves a group lead by Bradley Whitford and Richard Jenkins and if I told you their involvement it w...
