George Lucas To Marry Longtime Girlfriend Mellody Hobson

After six years of dating, "Star Wars" creator George Lucas popped the question to his longtime girlfriend Mellody Hobson.

The filmmaker, 68, and Hobson, 43, have been together since 2006. She is the president of Ariel Investments.

Lucas was married once before, from 1969 to 1983 to Marcia Lucas. George and Marcia adopted a daughter, Amanda, in 1981. After their divorce, Lucas adopted two more children: Katie, born in 1988, and Jett, born in 1993. This will be Hobson's first marriage.

Star Wars mogul George Lucas has scrapped plans to expand his moviemaking headquarters on farmland in California following complaints from local residents.

George Lucas has paid tribute to Ralph McQuarrie, the artist who helped him bring his Star Wars vision to the big screen, after his death on Saturday.

McQuarrie was 82 years old when he passed away at his home in Berkeley, California.

The illustrator is best known for designing the look of Lucas' best-known characters, including Darth Vader, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C-3PO, and also imagined sets for the hit sci-fi franchise.

He also created the alien spaceships in Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T., and won an Academy Award in 1985 for Visual Effects in Cocoon.

"The Grey" appears to be box office gold - it raked in $20 million at the weekend to take top spot in the box office chart.

Liam Neeson's adventure drama bumped Kate Beckinsale's horror film "Underworld: Awakening" to second place with takings of $12.5 million.

Coming in at a close third was Katherine Heigl's bounty hunter comedy "One For the Money" with earnings of $11.8 million.

Andrew Ainsworth made the headgear for the original movies and started selling the Stormtrooper helmets in 2004, to fans who wanted to wear them for fancy dress parties.

A special fan screening of the Star Wars films in New York has been cancelled after creator George Lucas threatened legal action over the event.

A group of sci-fi devotees had organized a 13-hour Star Wars movie marathon for 200 fans in a bar in Brooklyn last Sunday, but the screening was called off after organizers received a cease and desist letter from Lucas' lawyers.
