Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'The Green Hornet,' 'The Dilemma' & More

January 10th, 2011 9:13am EST
The Green Hornet
In preparation for the rapidly approaching Academy Awards in February, I’m trying to see all of the films that I missed in 2010, which are receiving Oscar buzz. Last week I saw the Coen brothers’ western “True Grit,” starring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Hailee Steinfeld. Normally the Coens can be hit or miss with me, but their latest movie is right on target.

The story follows a 14-year-old girl named Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld), whose father has been murdered by an outlaw named Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin). Mattie believes the authorities will do little to capture and punish of Tom Ch...

Matt Damon: 'I Am A True Nincompoop In This Movie'

December 28th, 2010 9:16am EST
Matt Damon
Matt Damon was literally left tongue-tied while preparing for his role in True Grit - he clamped a rubber band in his mouth to play a character who struggles to speak.

In the Coen brothers' Western movie, the actor stars as a Texas Ranger who suffers from a speech impediment after he is injured and loses part of his tongue.

And Damon managed to add a lisp to his Texan twang by learning to talk with elastic tied around his tongue.

He says, "To practice for the way you would talk with such an injury, I actually took one of my daughter's ponytail bands and just wrapped it around my tongu...

TrueGrit-083110-0001.jpg
'True Grit' written and directed by the Coen Bros. stars the brilliant Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn, a one eyed, tough, mean, hard drinking U.S. Marshal who thinks nothing about shooting first and asking questions later. He gets hired by Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld), a no nonsense, prim, 14 year old from Arkansas to track down the man who murdered her father...Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin) and bring him to justice. She's looking for someone that has 'true grit' and thinks Cogburn just might be that person. Against Cogburn's wishes, Mattie goes with him on the trek into the Indian Nations...

Barry Pepper Impressed By Green 'True Grit' Set

December 11th, 2010 2:31pm EST
Barry Pepper
True Grit star Barry Pepper was impressed with the Coen Brothers' green set - all the stars of the epic western were given their own stainless steel canteens and told to use nothing else for their water breaks.

The Battlefield Earth star admits it was the first time he has ever felt like he and his castmates were doing something to save the environment on a film set.

He tells WENN, "I was given a stainless steel water bottle with a note on it and it was beautifully embossed with 'True Grit.' It was given to all the crew and cast and it said, 'By utilizing this steel water bottle we'll hav...

Jeff Bridges Gets High On Meditation

December 8th, 2010 11:47pm EST
Jeff Bridges
Jeff Bridges turned his back on drugs for good after swapping mind-altering narcotics for meditation.

The actor has been open about his dalliances with cocaine and hallucinogenic LSD in his youth in the 1960s.

He famously quit smoking pot for his starring role in 1998's The Big Lebowski, but later admitted he struggled to keep up his clean-living when the film wrapped.

However, the Oscar winner insists his wild days are behind him now, and he prefers to get his highs from spirituality.

He tells Britain's Elle magazine, "When I was (in my) late teens or so I was a bit of a handful, but I...

October 27th, 2010 12:10pm EDT
Bridges,_Jeff
Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away. And only a few days after that, critics groups will start doling out year-end best-of movie awards. Oscar season is officially underway.

This is the time of the season where anything could happen. But in just five weeks or so, most films’ Oscar prospects will be much, much clearer. Only a few things are virtually certain: ‘The Social Network’ will ride its buzz to a Best Picture nomination, and Jeff Bridges will be in the Best Actor race for the second consecutive year. Oh, and Sandra Bullock will not be so lucky.

Let’s break it down by the majo...

This December will provide moviegoers with a very eclectic and abundant selection of films to choose from. Regardless of your preferred genre or style of filmmaking, chances are there are at least a couple of movies you’ll be looking forward to.

The most-talked about and most highly anticipated release is unarguably “Black Swan” from director Darren Aronofsky. Speculation about the film’s plot as well as star Natalie Portman’s performance has been building for months. Aronofsky has described “Swan” as a sort of companion piece to his 2008 film “The Wrestler” in terms of the focus on the ph...

'(500) Days Of Summer' & Other Films With Great Impromptu Music Scenes

December 21st, 2009 10:15pm EST
500 Days of Summer
(500) Days of Summer was one of the best movies of the year. The Golden Globe nominated film will be released on DVD on December 22nd

, and for those who haven't seen it - we recommend you check it out.

We especially love the musical scene where Joseph Gordon-Levitt charms the audience with his dance moves to Hall & Oates "You Make My Dreams Come True." His character, Tom, falls head over heels in love with Zooey Deschanel's character, Summer, and what better way to express his love than in song? When he thinks about her he wants to sing and dance and everyone else is as happy as he is...

Natalie Portman
In Paris, Je T'aime, celebrated directors from around the world, including the Coen Brothers, Gus Van Sant, Gurinder Chadha, Wes Craven, Walter Salles, Alexander Payne and Olivier Assayas, have come together to portray Paris in a way never before imagined.

Made by a team of contributors as cosmopolitan as the city itself, this portrait of the city is as diverse as its creators' backgrounds and nationalities. With each director telling the story of an unusual encounter in one of the city's neighborhoods, the vignettes go beyond the 'postcard' view of Paris to portray aspects of the ci...
