Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks and director Ron Howard will begin shooting a sequel to their 2006 smash hit The Da Vinci Code in February. Angels & Demons - again based on a novel by Dan Brown - will see Hanks reprise his character of Harvard University symbolist Robert Langdon.

The Da Vinci Code director Ron Howard and the book's author Dan Brown are being investigated by Italian state attorneys for religious obscenities. A complaint has been filed against the 2006 movie by clergymen in the Italian village of Civitavecchia, on the grounds it is "obscene" from a religious perspective.

Controversial film The Da Vinci Code has been banned in Pakistan after officials slammed it as blasphemous and disrespectful to the country's minority Christians.

The Da Vinci Code movie has been thrown into chaos after test audiences admitted they hated Tom Hanks' hairstyle. The normally short-haired actor grew his locks for the role of Robert Langdon in the adaptation of Dan Brown's best-selling novel, but viewers admitted to researchers they found his lank locks a major turn-off. A studio insider told The Sun newspaper: "Much of the talk is about the hair. But it's too late to fix it."
