ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons Turned Down $1 Million To Shave Beard

July 3rd, 2012 3:49pm EDT
Billy Gibbons
ZZ Top stars Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill rejected a $1 million deal to shave off their famous beards in a 1984 razor commercial.

The rockers, widely recognizable by their facial hair, were approached by bosses at Gillette to slice off their strands with the company's grooming products as part of a TV ad campaign, but Gibbons reveals no amount of money could make them go bare-faced, likening the look to that of a horror film character.

Speaking to rock music website BraveWords.com, Gibbons reveals, "(We were thinking,) 'No dice. Even adjusted for inflation, this isn't going to fly.' The...

ZZ Top pulled the plug on a gig in Alabama on Saturday night over safety concerns.

The trio have released a statement explaining their decision to scrap the Atmore show, revealing they feared the stage was about to collapse.

"We couldn't, in good conscience, do the show knowing that the safety for those on and off stage would be in jeopardy."

It appears promoters and bands are more wary of safety at shows following...

Take, for example, the setlists. The original game, with a mere 47 songs, was composed of almost entirely cover versions. Guitar Hero II, on the other hand, contained 64 songs, four of which were actually recorded by th...
