50 Cent Signs Up As Bone Marrow Donor To Help Sick Broadway Star

Rap superstar 50 Cent is encouraging fans to follow in his footsteps and register as bone marrow donors after he was moved by the plight of young Broadway star and leukaemia sufferer Shannon Tavarez.

The 11-year-old actress, who played the young Nala in hit musical "The Lion King," was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia in April and is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant to survive.

Alicia Keys and Rihanna have already issued a plea to their devotees to help find a suitable donor for Tavarez and now 50 Cent and his G-Unit bandmate Tony Yayo have thrown their support behind the cause....

NEW YORK (AP) - A lawyer for G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo, who is accused of slapping a 14-year-old boy on a Manhattan street, wants the charges dropped after prosecutors revealed Thursday that another man has confessed.

Yayo, 29, whose real name is Marvin Bernard, has pleaded not guilty to charges of misdemeanor assault, harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. 50 Cent is to release a series of "street" books. The rap star - who has already turned his hand to acting after starring in the semi-autobiographical film 'Get Rich Or Die Tryin'' - is planning to launch his own publishing house, G-Unit Books, in association with MTV/Pocket Books, who released his memoir 'From Pieces To Weight'.

The company will publish "street fiction" and the initial releases will feature works by the members of 50's G-Unit group, Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo and Young Buck.
