Country star Chely Wright gave birth to twin sons over the weekend. The lesbian singer and her wife, music executive Lauren Blitzer, welcomed the identical twin boys on Saturday.

The babies, named George Samuel and Everett Joseph, were two months premature.

Wright had revealed earlier this year that her children were expected to arrive in June. She just issued the following statement to "We are grateful for all the amazing medical care and the love and support of family and friends."

Country singer Chely Wright is pregnant with identical twins.

The Shut Up and Drive hit-maker and her wife, Lauren Blitzer, are set to become first-time parents when Wright gives birth in July.

The gay rights activist announced the news on Howard Bragman's show Gwissues on Wednesday after showing off her small baby bump.

She said, "We're excited to be parents and we hope we don't mess it up too badly! We're anticipating I'll be as big as a... bus or an A-frame house by around June."

Gay country star Chely Wright is opening a new community center for "confused" teens wishing to learn more about their sexuality.

The hitmaker, who publicly came out in 2007, has launched philanthropic organization Like Me to help stomp out bullying and promote understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.

Singer Cyndi Lauper is to perform a star-studded pre-Christmas benefit concert to raise money for homeless gay youth.

The "Single White Female" hitmaker met partner Lauren Blitzer last year, just two weeks after she 'came out' as a lesbian.

The pair exchanged vows at Blitzer's aunt's house in front of their close family and friends, while both wearing white wedding gowns.
