George Michael Announces His Comeback Tour

May 6th, 2011 11:34am EDT
George Michael
George Michael is set to hit the road for a new tour, just three years after he quit performing live.

The Faith hit-maker played two London concerts, dubbed The Final Two, in 2008 and announced the shows would mark the end of his career on the stage.

He recently released a new track called True Faith, as well as recording a cover of Stevie Wonder's You & I in honor of Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge's wedding last month - and now he's preparing to sing the songs to his fans during a string of arena shows.

In a series of posts on his Twitter.com page on Friday, he wr...

'American Idol' Recap: Casey Gets Saved + Power Rankings

March 25th, 2011 9:23am EDT
American Idol - Casey Abrams Gets Saved
I knew it was coming, but it still twisted my stomach when it did.

Last night, I thought my ‘Idol’ nightmare was over. I thought we were rid of the overrated self-indulgence factory that is Casey Abrams. I thought I wouldn’t have to see why having a beard makes you an artist, why being herky-jerky gives you credibility and why not picking pop songs gives you a sense of musical depth that would make James Murphy jealous. I thought I wouldn’t have to write a single word about that any longer, but I couldn’t help but think that as he sat in the bottom three that the judges would save him no m...

October 25th, 2010 9:00pm EDT
Rachel UchitelRachel
Former Tiger Woods mistress Rachel Uchitel attended the 32nd Annual Carousel Of Hope Ball in Beverly Hills on Saturday night, but we can't figure out exactly why.

The $1,000 per-plate gala was attended by numerous A-list celebrities, including Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony, Jane Fonda, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Akon, Don Johnson, Stevie Wonder, Paris Hilton, Lisa Rinna & Harry Hamlin and Halle Berry & Olivier Martinez. But if we recall correctly, having sex with a professional golfer behind his wife's back does not an A-lister make.

The professional mistress wore a long silver beaded gow...

Day Twenty-Five: December 20, 2009 - Love Actually

"Love Actually" is a long one, as far as holiday movies go. Some would assume it is too long for a genre that is notoriously known for cheesy carols and over-the-top design. However, what is at the core here are some very sweet (and often intertwining) stories about young love. From the racy movie stand-ins who come together (no pun intended), bonding even in awkward situations, to the elementary aged boy who is convinced he has found his true love, to the...

'American Idol' Power Rankings: Week 2

This week it was revealed that the American Idol wannabes lip-synch their group numbers. I'd never really noticed that before, but tonight it was all I could think about as they sang a Motown medley and looked like fleeing civilians in a "Godzilla" movie. How did it take us this long to unmask this conspiracy?

Of course, there was also a lot of real singing this evening. First it was Ruben Studdard who looked like a bathroom attendant at a five star restaurant and sang a song that I'm pretty sure is called "Every R&B Song Ever Written". At least he gave Jimmy Fallon solace in knowi...

Underrated & Overrated Movie Songs

November 7th, 2008 1:13pm EST
Neil Young
We all know the real reason we go to the movies. It isn't the thrills or the chills, the laughs or the gaffes, the drama or Lorenzo Lamas, no; we all hit the theater to hear the music. That is, we love to hear the one big song associated with any film.

The marriage of music and movies has long been exceptional. Whether it's "Theme From a Summer's Place" or "Blame Canada", nothing raises a film's enjoyment factor quite like a good tune.

Problem is, most songs simply aren't that good. A lot of these film tunes come from a great movie and are thusly mistaken as great music when i...

Overrated & Underrated Pop Duets

October 3rd, 2008 10:11am EDT

Sometimes one just ain't enough.

That's a line, okay an amended line, from the rarest of rock treats - the duet. Everyone loves when two pop icons team up for a single. It's just like those rare occasions when two solo wrestlers join forces for a super tag-team.

Just like its brethren in the WWE the results for pop duets are often much less than the sum of their parts. Still, each duet holds a special spot, or two, in the minds of music fans.

So it's easy to say that all duets are overrated isn't it? Well, that would be the case if it weren't for the fact that so many gr...

Misadventures In Stereo, the third album by widely lauded singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jim Boggia, is unmistakably the work of a true believer and pop craftsman who's closely acquainted with music's capacity for transcendent uplift. His confessional, deeply personal lyrics tap into the deepest and most universal of human emotions. Born blind in one eye and with limited vision in the other, Boggia grew up an only child with an acutely developed ear for music.
