A truly odd album, The Royal Impression features Won-G, a self-acclaimed Hatian rapper with a poster-boy stance best illustrated on the text- and photo-heavy CD booklet. His rhymes flow quickly with surprising liquidity, and the beats bounce with esoteric flavor, making this an alluring yet uncanny album that doesn't seem to fit any established template, not even a niche rap style -- a rare and undeniably remarkable attribute for the oft-derivative rap genre circa 2000. Though intriguing, something is just too out of place with Won-G's persona as illustrated on this album to ever make him an idolized rapper, unfortunately.
