Whitesnake is an English rock band, founded in 1977 by David Coverdale after his departure from his previous band, Deep Purple. The band's early material has been compared by critics to Deep Purple but by the mid-1980s Whitesnake had moved away from the early blues influenced hard rock to a more commercial heavy metal style. Their debut album “Trouble” was released in 1978 and reached #50 on the U.K. Albums chart. The album featured a cover of The Beatles’ “Day Tripper” and featured Coverdale's former bandmate Jon Lord from Deep Purple on keyboards. “Lovehunter” followed in 1979 and peaked at #29 on the UK Albums chart.
