Other historic notes included BIC's launch of the first disposable razor; Microsoft became a registered trademark; Motorola obtained the first portable mobile phone patent; the Altair 8800 microcomputer was released and Ex-teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa va...

Jack White's 'Lazaretto' Tops Billboard 200, Breaks Vinyl Sales Record

6/20/2014 1:34pm EDT
Jack White
Jack White's latest album, "Lazaretto," has proven that vinyl is alive and well.

The album topped the Billboard 200 chart with 138,000 sales in its first week of release, and 29% of those album copies sold were vinyl records, which have been making a huge comeback in recent years because of their sound quality.

"Lazaretto" isn't the typical 33 RPM record though, it plays at three different speeds and includes a hidden track that's located under the label at the center of the disc.

The album, which also features a hologram of an angel, is the biggest vinyl seller in 20 years, besting Pear...

Jack White Flexes His Alt-Rock Muscles on 'Lazaretto'
Jack White, Lazaretto

In 2012, following a storied musical career highlighted by an extended tenure as one-half of seminal minimalist duo The White Stripes, singer/songwriter and rock go-to guy Jack White released his debut solo album, Blunderbuss. Unsurprisingly given White’s accolades, Blunderbuss was a hit, earning White a number one album and multiple Grammy nominations. After a two-year hiatus, White returns with a highly anticipated sophomore album Lazaretto.

Topping Blunderbuss’ consistency and quality is certainly heroic task, but Lazaretto holds its own. Perhaps the tallest...

Young stepped into the booth to give it a spin (no word if he had to pay the 35 cents required to run it) and recorded a cover of Willie Nelson's Crazy. The so...
