'Pitch Perfect 2' Tops This Week

May 21st, 2015 9:58am EDT
The 'Pitch Perfect 2' Soundtrack Is Aca-Awesome At No. 1
Who had an “Aca-awesome” week on the Billboard 200? That would be the original motion picture soundtrack for Pitch Perfect 2, which debuts at #1. Pitch Perfect 2 definitely benefitted from the success of the original Pitch Perfect soundtrack and movie, hence the energetic 107,000 units start. Lately, soundtracks have been on a roll on the albums chart, and Pitch Perfect 2 isn’t about to end the run.

Besides Pitch Perfect 2, the only other new release to enter the top 10 was Incubus’ EP, Trust Fall (Side A), which landed at #6 with a modest 40,000 units. With Incubus’ EP being the fi...

How Did Mumford & Sons New Album Perform?

May 14th, 2015 10:09am EDT
Mumford & Sons Take ‘Wilder Mind’ To No. 1 On Billboard
Unsurprisingly, Mumford & Sons cruised to a career second #1 album with Wilder Mind. Despite retooling their banjo-heavy style, plenty of people still joined the British band’s party – 249,000 to be exact, with most of those equating to copies sold. Go back three years earlier when Babel and mad banjo were still thriving, and the numbers were loftier to the tune of 600,000. Still, given the new normal of album sales and a new way to calculate the overall impact of an album, Mumford & Sons performed well.

It wasn’t all about Wilder Mind contrary to popular belief (or the majority of s...

Does The 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Soundtrack Deliver?

February 11th, 2015 11:00pm EST
Fifty Shades of Grey Soundtrack
Fifty Shades of Grey isn’t just a book or a motion picture – it’s a movement! No the presence of Fifty Shades of Grey isn’t changing something of macro importance, but it certainly expounds upon sex in ways many have never experienced - understatement. That said, the relationship between Ana and Christian is not the focus here – it is the accompanying original motion picture soundtrack. Such a bold film requires a soundtrack to match, and overall, the ‘nifty’ Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack does the job.

Fifty Shades of Grey mixes old and new throughout its course. It opens soundly wit...

'Fifty Shades': Dakota Johnson Gets Tied Up For The Weeknd (NSFW)

January 22nd, 2015 8:04pm EST
Dakota Johnson Is All Tied Up In The Weeknd's Scorching 'Earned
Dakota Johnson is all tied up in the first official video from the soundtrack to "Fifty Shades of Grey," which hits theaters next month.

The actress, who plays the lead role of Anastasia Steele in the flick, is bound in ropes while wearing just a fleshtone bra and undies, and she's suspended over a stage as Canadian R&B singer Abel Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd, performs his sure-to-be hit single "Earned It."

Johnson isn't the the only one steaming up the video as dancers wearing just pasties over their nipples and black "X's" on their bare buttocks move erotically in the background.

The video...

The 10 Most Disappointing Albums of 2013

December 26th, 2013 11:00am EST
Britney Jean
Throughout 2013, I’ve had the opportunity to review lots of albums.  Some were extremely special (Vampire Weekend, Modern Vampires of the City among ‘em), while others were D-I-S-A-P-P-O-I-N-T-I-N-G. Not to be a negative noodle or kill anyone’s happy vibe, but sometimes artists lay an egg… a really rotten one.   Not every album here is just awful, but contextually, they didn’t quite live up to the hype.  Some were rotten eggs though!

1) Britney Spears

 Britney Jean

Keeping it short and sweet, Britney Spears at times lacked fierceness on Britney Jean.  “Work B*tch” was great and “Perfume”...

6 of Today’s Most One Dimensional Music Artists

November 3rd, 2013 2:00pm EST
John Mayer Paradise Valley
Some artists constantly change up their formula, while others are content.  There is nothing wrong with being content, but sometimes it puts your artistry into serious questioning.  There are many artists I could characterize as ‘one dimensional’, but I chose five who truly epitomize this description.  And yes, some of these are artists I highly respect and listen to.  I’m a meanie, I know.

India. Arie

I really do respect and enjoy India. Arie’s music, but I feel that she hasn’t truly ‘spread’ her wings for a couple of albums.  I’m all about “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, but stil...
