'Glee' Recap: Bring In The Bieb, Bring Back The Berry

February 16th, 2011 11:39am EST
Glee
The one-two punch of the Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day hit the “Glee” gang pretty hard, and this non-holiday themed return is all about launching a ‘Comeback.’

First, welcome back Guidance Counselor and Stamos Wife, Emma Pilsbury. Though she seldom felt compelled to step in and combat the bullying at McKinley, a Sue-icide note from the fallen cheer coach has reminded her of the office full of all-purpose pamphlets she has yet to hand out to students and teachers in need. In a world where depressed faculty members audit extra-curricular activities, that and a bad idea is all it takes to ge...

Cher Makes History With Six Decades Of Number Ones

January 19th, 2011 8:32am EST
Cher
Cher has made history in the U.S. by becoming the only artist to score a number one on a Billboard chart in each of the last six decades.

Her Diane Warren-penned "Burlesque" tune "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me," which picked up the Best Song award at Sunday's Golden Globes, has topped the Dance/Club Play Songs chart, giving Cher her first number one of the new decade.

The pop superstar scored her first U.S. chart-topper in 1965, when Sonny & Cher's "I Got You Babe" went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 countdown.

Her other number ones have included "Dark Lady," "All I Ever Need I...

Check Out Varsity Fanclub's Pool Party

September 18th, 2008 7:30pm EDT
Varsity Fanclub
It is a widely accepted tenet in pop music that every generation needs its own young stars to scream for. So is it really surprising that a new group of fresh-faced young men have begun to make a footprint on the pop landscape? Even old-timers New Kids on the Block have reunited more than a decade after 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys ruled the charts. Clearly the members of NKOTB recognized that few people (even those of us old enough to own "Hangin' Tough" on vinyl), can resist the simple pleasure of five talented, upbeat guys singing and dancing in unison. It's been true since the Jackson 5 ...

Three Graces
Three Graces (Joy Kabanuck, Kelly Levesque and Sara Gettelfinger) released their self-titled debut album March 4th on Decca Records. While it is not uncommon for solo artists to work in various genres of music during the course of their career it's a much rarer occurrence to find three individual artists with this commonality looking to collaborate on a higher level. The stunning and talented new trio, Three Graces, effectively blends their musical backgrounds in Opera, Pop and Broadway to form a new sound that resonates with any music enthusiast.

The performances on their debut alb...

Starpulse Asks: Where Have All the Songwriters Gone?

October 26th, 2007 3:49pm EDT
Paramore
Pop tunesmiths are a baker's dozen. After the late-90s surge of uber song doctors such as Desmond Child and Diane Warren (known for that Titanic song), Justin Timberlake found his "SexyBack" and his own writing voice following years of whistling Max Martin dixie. Heck, even Britney Spears penned tunes from her Britney effort. (This year's tepid train wreck "Blackout" features a pitiful two songs co-written by the popstar.)

But what goes around comes around. A mere glance at the contemporary pop offerings finds only a chapbook of singer-songwriters. Ms. Warren's cheeseball balladry has ...
