Martha Wainwright was born May 8, 1976 in Montreal, Canada and is a Canadian-American folk-rock singer-songwriter. She is the daughter of American folk singer, and actor, Loudon Wainwright III and Canadian folk singer-songwriter Kate McGarrigle. Raised in a musical family, Wainwright was submerged in music of all genres and began singing and performing at an early age. In 1997 Wainwright released a debut offering called “Ground Found,” which gained her some attention.

Living in New York, and touring with her brother Rufus Wainwright, Wainwright kept herself busy and in 2002 released a self-titled EP called “Factory,” followed by another EP called “Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole.” Wainwright signed with Rounder Records and released her self-titled full-length debut album in 2005. Her second effort, “I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too,” arrived in spring 2008. In 2009 Wainwright released, “Sans Fusils, Ni Souliers, a Paris,” a 15-song collection of live Edith Piaf covers.

Wainwright is well respected within the music industry and has worked with artists, such as The Who, Snow Petrol, Leonard Cohen, and Hole. Since the release of her album, “I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too,” Wainwright has toured extensively in Europe, Canada, the United States and Australia, building up a following and impressing audiences with her live performances and provocative voice. 2007 was a busy years for Wainwright: she recorded a duet with Snow Patrol, performed at the V Festival and Lollapalooza, performed with her brother at the Hollywood Bowl, and was joined by Annie Lennox and 22 other female artists to raise awareness of the transmission of HIV to unborn children in Africa. The single "Sing" was released on World Aids Day on December 1, 2007. Currently Wainwright is busy writing and recording new music.
