The Members Of Blondie Pay Tribute To Lou Reed

October 29th, 2013 8:48am EDT
Blondie
Blondie members Debbie Harry and Chris Stein have paid tribute to the late Lou Reed, who died on Sunday at the age of 71. The punk legends have recalled thrilling moments with the former Velvet Underground frontman in statements released on Monday.

Harry remembers, "The first time I saw the Velvet Underground with Lou Reed it was in the 1960s at a place on the Lower East Side (of New York) called The Balloon Farm. That day I became a lifelong devotee of the iconoclastic sound and style of Lou and the Velvets.

"I'm so sad that he's gone but his hypnotic voice telling a story of a Perfect D...

Heavy rockers Metallica have recorded an album with music veteran Lou Reed.

The band performed with the Perfect Day hit-maker during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th anniversary concerts in New York City in 2009, and the collaboration prompted them to start planning a project together.

The rockers have now confirmed they have spent the last few months working with Reed at their studio in San Francisco, California and they completed recording a 10-track album with the former Velvet Underground star last week.

A statement from Metallic reads, "We have just completed recording a full-...

Simon Cowell Calls Lou Reed 'Pathetic' Over Susan Boyle Snub

September 12th, 2010 7:14pm EDT
Simon Cowell
Simon Cowell has lashed out at Lou Reed for allegedly refusing permission for Scottish singer Susan Boyle to perform his "Perfect Day" anthem - branding the decision "pathetic."

Boyle was left crushed and with a "heavy heart" after she was barred from covering the song on "America's Got Talent" during rehearsals for the show last week.

A representative for Reed later insisted the former Velvet Underground frontman had nothing to do with the move to stop Boyle singing his song, blaming it on a licensing glitch in the American market.

But music mogul Cowell, who discovered Boyle on his "Br...

The New Face Of Psych Rock: A Modern Movement With A Familiar Feel

January 21st, 2008 11:33am EST
Dr. Dog
Flip on your radio these days and you'll likely hear zealously polished vocal melodies accompanied by synthetic instruments, digitally programmed beats, and looped samples. Lo-fi sensibility, improvisation, and general creativity seem to have vanished from pop music altogether.

Look closely enough, however, and you'll see that a handful of experimental pioneers are keeping the tradition of 60s-style psychedelia and musical craftsmanship alive, doing for psychedelic rock what The Strokes and The White Stripes did for indie rock just a few years ago.

The Philadelphia-based five-p...

Cold War Kids
Cold War Kids – Matt Aveiro (drums) , Matt Maust (bass), Jonnie Russell (guitar), Nathan Willett (vocals/piano) – began in the fall of '04 with jangly guitar, handclaps, and a Harmony amp in a storage room atop a restaurant in Fullerton, CA. Using songs of Dylan, Billie Holiday, and the Velvet Underground as a road map, they listened to their tiny inner voice to manipulate and structure their honest musical style. In 2005/2006 Cold War Kids self-released three six song EP's (Mulberry Street, Up in Rags, and With our Wallets Full) and toured relentlessly, sometimes with compadres Tapes ‘n Ta...

Velvet Underground Star Slams Film 'Factory Girl,' Sienna Miller

January 24th, 2006 10:54am EST
Lou Reed
Acclaimed rocker Lou Reed has branded Sienna Miller a "whore" for agreeing to play Andy Warhol's muse Edie Sedgwick in upcoming biopic "Factory Girl." The Velvet Underground star was close friends with Warhol after they met in New York City in the 1960s and is horrified by the fictionalisation of parts of "Factory Girl's" plot - including a fictitious character.

He says, "There is no limit to how low some people will go to write something to make money. They're all a bunch of whores."

In "Factory Girl," a beautiful, wealthy young party girl drops out of Harvard in 1965 and heads ...
