Phil Vassar was born May 28, 1964 in Lynchburg, Virginia and is a country music artist. Vassar made his debut on the country music scene in the late 1990s, co-writing songs with a number of country music artists, such as Tim McGraw, Jo Dee Messina, Collin Raye and Alan Jackson.

Vassar didn't begin to learn the piano until he was in college and after graduation he picked up work as a singer in local clubs, until he decided to move to Nashville, Tennessee. Unable to land a record deal as a recording artist, Vassar began to write for other artists.

1999 saw Vassar sign to Arista Records/Nashville, followed by his self-titled debut album in 2000, which spawned five hit singles on the Billboard Country Songs chart, including, “Carlene,” peaking at #6 and “Just Another Day in Paradise” peaking at #1. Shortly thereafter, Vassar embarked on a tour with Kenny Chesney.

2002 marked Vassar's second offering, “American Child,” followed up by “Shaken Not Stirred” in 2004. 2006 saw a change in labels for Vassar over to Universal South Records. His debut album for the label, “Prayer of a Common Man,” appeared in 2008. Vassar followed up in 2009 with “Traveling Circus” and “Noel” in 2011.
