Eddie Van Halen Undergoes Emergency Surgery For Diverticulitis

Van Halen have postponed their upcoming tour of Japan after Eddie Van Halen underwent emergency surgery for a digestive disease.

The guitarist was admitted to the hospital for the operation to treat a "severe bout" of diverticulitis, a disease of the large intestine, and is expected to make a full recovery within four to six months.

As a result, the band has been forced to cancel its November shows in Japan.

Rocker Eddie Van Halen is auctioning one of his guitars to raise funds for a children's charity based in Los Angeles.

Van Halen has owned the instrument since 1999 and it was one of the first Wolfgang guitars ever produced.

The Dutch rocker is to personalize his axe for the successful bidder when it is sold on CharityBuzz.com for Drop In The Bucket, which raises money for needy children across the world.

The guitar, which comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Van Halen, is expected to raise $10,000 by the time bidding closes on January 19th.

Azoff let the news slip in his capacity as Live Nation Ticketmaster chairman at a concert promoters meeting on Monday, according to RollingStone.com.

Van Halen, with frontman David Lee Roth, last toured together in 2008 - a tour which grossed $93 million for Live Nation.
