Shania Twain Gets Engaged

December 20th, 2010 12:57pm EST
Shania Twain
Country superstar Shania Twain is engaged to Frederic Thiebaud, her rep confirms exclusively in the new issue of Us Weekly, out Tuesday.

Twain, 45, stepped out with Thiebaud, 40, for a PDA-packed lunch at Serafina's Fabulous Grill in NYC on Thursday with an enormous engagement ring.

"I've never seen Shania so happy," a pal tells Us of the singer. Swiss-born Thiebaud, a Nestle business executive, popped the question about two months ago in Switzerland.

The couple's road to matrimony was an exceptionally complicated one. Thiebaud is the ex-husband of Twain's former best friend Marie-Anne ...

August 18th, 2010 10:49pm EDT
Steven Tyler
Aerosmith star Steven Tyler has signed on to replace Simon Cowell on TV talent show "American Idol," according to new reports.

The rocker's name has been linked to the program for weeks but Tyler recently revealed he hadn't signed an official contract, insisting the whole idea was just "a work in progress."

But tonight reports that a source close to the "Love in an Elevator" singer says the deal is done.

If the story is true, Idol producers appear to have agreed to hand over a large sum of cash to their new judge - Tyler recently said show bosses would have to "lay ou...

Why Is 'American Idol' Struggling To Find New Judges?

August 13th, 2010 3:00pm EDT
Why Is Idol Struggling
Some critics say that "American Idol" is a halfway-sunk ship -- considering last season's ratings dip, underwhelming talent and Simon Cowell's exit -- and the recent scramble to revamp the judging panel might be the final hole in the hull.

Jennifer Lopez, who was reportedly a frontrunner to replace Ellen Degeneres, confirmed this week that she was no longer being considered. Shania Twain, Mariah Carey, Bret Michaels and Harry Connick, Jr.'s names were also being tossed around, but nothing came to fruition. Why is the ratings behemoth -- dubbed by other networks as the "Death Star" -- hav...

Style Watch: Celebrities Fragrances Dominate The Market

August 4th, 2010 6:05am EDT
Celebrity Fragrances
Jennifer Aniston and Mary J. Blige recently joined the ongoing list of celebrities who launch their own personal fragrances. It seems you haven't really made it unless you make an attempt to market your scent in a bottle (or publish a book).

Celebrities have the power to create, or at least have someone else create, anything to promote their name and rake in more money. Clothing, shoes, bags, restaurants and perfumes are just a few ways celebrities brand themselves.

But who started the celebrity fragrance trend? It certainly wasn't Jennifer Lopez or Paris Hilton.

Elizabeth Taylor has lau...

'American Idol' Recap: Shania Twain Gives Us The Best Night Of The Season So Far

April 28th, 2010 9:28am EDT
Casey James American Idol
All season we’ve been waiting for an episode like the one we got last night. And who knew we’d get it from Shania Twain’s catalog?

Country night appeared to have doom written all over it. After all, this is a competition composed of a soul singer, a rocker, a folky, a blues man, a freaky opera singer and Ed Grimley. Not exactly the recipe for down home success.

But you know what? Sometimes strange combinations can yield the most delightful results. Or at least results that were far more compelling than anything we’ve seen so far this season.

Random Thoughts Waiting for the Actual Show...

'American Idol' Recap: Tim Says Goodbye On Idol Gives Back Night

April 22nd, 2010 9:32am EDT
Tim Urban (C) is eliminated from the competition on IDOL GIVES B
I just can’t be snarky on “Idol Gives Back” night. There’s just no way to mock anything that’s for a good cause. So you’ll have to forgive my relatively straightforward recap.

Of course, there were many performances tonight, and may fell flat. Particularly the Jonah Hill/Russell Brand Phone Bank sketch. There were more awkward silences and nervous bouts of laughter than you’d find on a bad first date.

We also saw the Black Eyed Peas continue to make us wonder why they are so popular and the Lopez/Sykes comedy duo prove that Fox and TBS made the right moves by wooing Conan. Then there...

Best/Worst 'American Idol' Chicago Auditions, Including 'Boob Boxing'

January 20th, 2010 9:29am EST
American Idol Chicago audition
Last night the 'American Idol' auditions went to Chicago, and continually reminded us that this was where Obama got his start. In fact, we were forced to watch a four-minute opening that compared the auditions to Obama becoming our first African-American President. Because they're very close in spectrum.

This question also answered the question, "Whatever happened to Shania Twain?" as the country superstar came out of her hiding place just long enough to lend her opinion on the best (and the worst) of the two days in Chicago.

Let's start with the best. . .

Three Best Auditions

Unexpected, Untimely And Shocking Deaths In Music

July 1st, 2009 11:15am EDT
Shocking music deaths
Heart attacks. Plane crashes. Car crashes. Drug overdoses. Murder. Over the years, these have become some of the most common causes of the often shocking deaths in the music industry. On a lighter note, some might argue that even ham sandwiches have been involved.

Regardless of the cause, take a look back at these musical icons that have left us way, way, way too soon - yet have left us with legacies that will live on forever. The majority of these deaths, in addition to being sudden and shocking, were in some way either ironic or just completely messed up. Rock on...

'American Idol' Mega Diary - A Blow By Blow Of Last Night's Event

May 21st, 2009 8:37am EDT
American Idol
Two hours, wall-to-wall performances, and the "American Idol" result all in one place? Sounds like the perfect opportunity for a mega diary.

8:00 - Wow, the graphics on the opening with the contestants' name look like they were the group final for a high school A/V class. It never ceases to be amazing how bad the graphics can look on something so prominent.

8:01 - Whose idea was it to dress them both in head-to-toe white? What is this? A Mormon baptism?

8:02 - Joely Fisher with baby: "Hey America, did you know "'Til Death" just got renewed again? Muahahahahaha."

July 21st, 2008 9:00am EDT
Russell Crowe
What is it about Aussies that Americans find so fascinating? Is it the cute accents? The laid-back attitudes? The "party animal" reputations? It could be a mix of all of these traits. It could also be because, although we speak the same language and our cultures have many similarities, many of us know very little about Australia. That strange yet familiar vibe makes those down under denizens appear exciting and mysterious - an irresistible combo!

Since Americans are also fascinated with celebrities, it's no surprise that so many awesome Aussie entertainers have found fame in the U.S. ...

Starpulse Celebrity Spotlight: Carrie Underwood

November 24th, 2007 4:00pm EST
Carrie Underwood
Country singer Carrie Underwood sung her way into the hearts of America when she was crowned the new American Idol in May 2005. “Not only will you win this show, you will sell more records than any other precious Idol winner,” said judge Simon Cowell after Underwood, 24, performed Heart’s hit song “Alone.”

Looks like Simon Cowell is a psychic after all because Underwood has done exactly what he predicted. Her debut album “Some Hearts” was released on November 15, 2005 and sold 315,000 copies in its first week, making it the fastest-selling debut country album in the history of the Soun...
