R&B drummer Earl Palmer has died at the age of 84. The New Orleans-native died Friday at his Los Angeles home after fighting a lengthy illness, according to his spokesperson.

Palmer was known as a music pioneer amongst his peers, recording backbeats for classics including Little Richard's Tutti Frutti and The Righteous Brothers' You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'.

His talents have also been featured in music tracks for Ike and Tina Turner, jazz great Fats Domino, The Monkees, Neil Young and Frank Sinatra.

Palmer was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.

Soul star Ike Turner insists he has no complaints after police mistakenly arrested him on an outstanding drugs charge due to a computer glitch earlier this week. The 75-year-old was pulled over by Los Angeles cops in a traffic stop on Tuesday night. He was taken into custody when officers discovered he had an outstanding no-bail felony drugs warrant dating back to 1989.
