Review: 'Marley' A Documentary About A Music Legend (Video)

April 20th, 2012 4:20pm EDT
'Marley'
The music of Bob Marley makes me feel really, really good. I could be in the worst mood, stuck in traffic...whatever. All I have to do is click on 'One Love', 'Exodus' or 'No Woman No Cry' and my spirits soar.

After seeing Kevin McDonald's documentary entitled 'Marley' I am happy to report that I now know so much more about Bob Marley the man and why he was and still is one of the greatest musical icons of the 20th century.

Bob Marley brought reggae...

Mick Jagger
LOS ANGELES - The Very Best Of Mick Jagger, the first overview of his distinguished solo career, is set for release in the U.S. on October 2, on Atlantic/Rhino Records. It's a vivid reminder of the compelling gifts that brought Jagger fame in the first place. As an embodiment of all that rock 'n' roll can mean, he is virtually without peer and that is made plain on this compelling 17-track collection, which includes three previously unreleased performances.

But Mick, for better or worse, is also one of those figures who has far eclipsed the realm of rock 'n' roll to become one of the m...

July 17th, 2006 3:39pm EDT
MSMW
It's a match made not above nor below, but rather in some altogether hipper, funkier place. We're talking John Medeski, Billy Martin, and Chris Wood (aka Medeski, Martin & Wood), plus guitar guru John Scofield. On their new release Out Louder, they make music not of this world, yet rooted in the earth tones of jazz, funk, and blues. Music from the heart, for the mind, and made to shake the earth, not to mention the body.

Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood first recorded together on Scofield's A Go Go (click for review), a disc that has become a must-have classic. That project united jazz g...

Sublime Retrospective Due

Sublime
In music, as well as attitude, Sublime was one of the most influential bands of both '90s modern rock and youth culture. Its freewheeling mix of alternative, hip-hop, punk and reggae--served up with an aggressive d.i.y. spirit--broke down musical and cultural barriers, and became a model for the cross-genre music of today. Sublime fueled a rabid grassroots following, comprised of all ages and walks of life- the ska-punk underground, the frat house collegiate, the ever increasing dub and ragga aficionados, and, of course, the legions of the surf/skate/snowboard community who embraced the ban...
