The Monkees kick off summer tour with Nesmith

Michael Nesmith rejoined The Monkees in Port Chester, New York on Monday night (15Jul13) for the first time since he walked out on the band at the beginning of a European tour in 1997.

The guitarist has reunited with drummer Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork for a summer tour after reconnecting with his former bandmates following group frontman Davy Jones' death last year (12).

The trio appeared at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester for a hits set and screened video footage from The Monkees 1960s heyday.

Davy Jones' The Monkees bandmates are planning to stay away from the late singer's funeral in Florida so their frontman can avoid a send-off that becomes a media circus.

Jones' wife and children are hoping to stage a quiet funeral and bandmate Micky Dolenz tells Billboard.com that he'll not attend in a bid to respect the family's wishes.

Davy Jones was putting together plans for The Monkees to head out on another tour just days before his death, according to bandmate Peter Tork.

The group's British-born frontman died on Wednesday after suffering a heart attack at the age of 66.
