The Essential 'Weird Al' Yankovic - 2 CDs, 38 Songs, Out Now; Win It!

November 15th, 2009 10:33pm EST
Welcome to the wild world of "Weird Al" Yankovic - a world populated by a Pennsylvania Dutch gangsta-rapper ("Amish Paradise") and a serial-killing Saint Nick ("The Night Santa Went Crazy") - a world where people frantically search for their Liquid Paper, hallucinate about the floating disembodied head of Colonel Sanders and dream of one day visiting "The Biggest Ball Of Twine In Minnesota." Yankovic, a three-time Grammy Award winner and the biggest selling comedy recording artist in history, shows no mercy to cultural milestones of every stripe - from Jurassic Park and Star Wars to the hi...

Concert Review: They Might Be Giants at the Variety Playhouse, Atlanta, GA

March 21st, 2008 10:39am EDT
They Might Be Giants
One look at the crowd on this Saturday afternoon inside Atlanta's Variety Playhouse would convince an onlooker that Barney was in town. Or the Wiggles. This could not be further from the truth. It was a special family show presented by the quirky alternative rock group straight outta Brooklyn called They Might Be Giants.

Although John Flansburgh and John Linnell never expected to have such a young cult following during their formation back in the early eighties, it has happened. With a one-off, just-for-fun project in 2002 entitled "No!" they reached a demographic that very few roc...

They Might Be Giants Release 'The Else'

July 10th, 2007 10:00am EDT
TMBG
Full of musical surprises, lyrical twists and sonic turns, The Else is a return to form for alternative rock legends They Might Be Giants, who started their illustrious career twenty-five years ago.

While The Else finally captures their notoriously talented live band in all their barnstorming glory, the complete effort is an electrifying mix of homebrewed sonic madness and studio mastery. Over a year and a half in the making and recorded on both coasts, the album was created in collaboration with LA producers the Dust Brothers (Beck, Beastie Boys, Hanson) and NYC engineer/producer Patr...

They Might Be Giants New DVD and Tour

April 26th, 2006 10:00pm EDT
They Might Be Giants
They Might Be Giants can write a song about anything -- just dare them! The new "Venue Songs" DVD started out as a way to pass the time on a tour bus. Instead of playing more cards or watching another Dave Chappelle rerun, They Might Be Giants challenged themselves to write an original song for every rock club they would be performing in: write it on the bus, rehearse it at sound check, and debut the song to the audience that night. As the tour rolled on, the effort seemed more than a little misguided--possibly disastrous--but happily the experiment paid off. The songs were consistently int...
