TV On The Radio Bassist Dies Of Lung Cancer

TV On The Radio star Gerard Smith has lost his battle with lung cancer.

The bassist revealed he had been diagnosed with the disease earlier this year and subsequently dropped out of the cult band's summer tour across America and Europe to concentrate on his recovery.

A recent statement released on the band's website read, "Already we have seen dramatic results. Combine that with Gerard's legendarily willful disposition and it might just be cancer that has the problem."

But Smith passed away on Wednesday morning.

Canadian singer Leslie Feist is the winner of the Seventh Annual Shortlist Music Prize for her album The Reminder. Feist is the second female artist to win the prize, following Cat Power who won the award last year. Feist was chosen by a panel of five Listmakers: recording artists Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) and Ronnie Vannucci (the Killers), journalist Rev. Moose (CMJ), radio DJ Chris Douridas (KCRW) and the hosts of Hunnypot Internet Radio.
