Oasis Accused Of Ripping Off Cliff Richard

October 5th, 2008 1:30pm EDT
Rockers Oasis have been accused of ripping off a Cliff Richard hit with their new single "The Turning." Oasis posted the track on their MySpace.com page on Thursday, but the song has received harsh criticism from fans of aging crooner Richard— who claim the tune bears an uncanny resemblance his 1976 hit, "Devil Woman."

Writing on Richard's official site, one user by the name of Rolybunny, says, "This is a rip-off. What'll they do next? Remix Mistletoe and Wine?"

However, the track has not been panned by all Richard fans.

Janine Castle, from the International Cliff Richard Mov...

Switches To Tour With She Wants Revenge, Be Your Own Pet & The Virgins

May 18th, 2008 12:00pm EDT
"Well, the idea was a band, but we're really a neurotic bunch of obsessive compulsive weirdos," Switches singer Matt Bishop says.

The neurotic obsessive-compulsive weirdos, pulled through impressively and way fantastically, and on March 18, 2008 Switches released their debut album, Lay Down The Law, produced by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith) on Interscope.

Strangely, Switches, who now all live in London, came together naturally and easily. Matt grew up in Southend (a low-rent seaside town, something like the old Asbury Park neighbourhood) and formed the band while at college:...

The New Face Of Psych Rock: A Modern Movement With A Familiar Feel

January 21st, 2008 11:33am EST
Dr. Dog
Flip on your radio these days and you'll likely hear zealously polished vocal melodies accompanied by synthetic instruments, digitally programmed beats, and looped samples. Lo-fi sensibility, improvisation, and general creativity seem to have vanished from pop music altogether.

Look closely enough, however, and you'll see that a handful of experimental pioneers are keeping the tradition of 60s-style psychedelia and musical craftsmanship alive, doing for psychedelic rock what The Strokes and The White Stripes did for indie rock just a few years ago.

The Philadelphia-based five-p...

Moby's Impromptu Tribute Gig

October 2nd, 2007 3:03pm EDT
Music stars Patti Smith and Moby shocked fans at a T. Rex tribute event in New York on Saturday, by jumping onstage for impromptu performances. The dance star claims he only attended the bash as a fan of the rockers - but couldn't resist the temptation to play.

He writes on his blog, "Somehow I ended up on stage playing '20th Century Boy', which has the sexiest guitar riff of all time, ever. Patti Smith performed, as well as some of my new wave heroes: Richard Lloyd from 'Television', and Lloyd Cole from the Commotions. For me, though, the biggest thrill of the night was performing wi...

Marc Bolan's Girlfriend Defends The Late Rock Icon

September 3rd, 2007 3:00pm EDT
Marc Bolan
Rock icon Marc Bolan's former girlfriend Gloria Jones has hit out at claims the late star beat her during a drunken rage. A former friend of the T-Rex star makes the claim in a new British TV documentary, which is due to be aired next week.

But singer Jones, the mother of Bolan's son Rolan, has only positive memories of their time together.

She says, "Who are these people to know anything? Were they in our house? Were they in our bed? No. We had privacy. I remember it as a really exciting time for the both of us - musically and personally. We understood each other so well. I encou...

August 27th, 2007 9:39am EDT
Marc Bolan
Fans of tragic T-Rex front man Marc Bolan have asked Brit Award bosses to hand the singer a posthumous prize, to mark the 30th anniversary of his death. Bolan was just 29 when he was killed in a car accident in 1977.

Although the Brits were held in February this year, organizers of a petition are hoping Bolan will be recognized at the next ceremony in 2008 - and they have already attracted 2,000 signatures.

The petition reads, "We should be able to convince the doubting Brits of the passion we all hold for Marc Bolan and the contribution he made to the industry and we need to re...

Late rocker Marc Bolan's unfinished songs will finally see the light of day after they were completed by one of his tribute acts. In a deal to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the T-Rex frontman's death in September 1977, the music star's estate has agreed on a deal with tribute band Hot Love to turn unfinished 39 pieces of music into 15 songs.

Hot Love vocalist Alex 'Midge' Peebles has spent six months working on the tracks.

He says, "It was such a great honor, but at the same time it was really daunting. When I first heard the melodies, I was blown away. But they were only a ...
