Music Review: 'Hawaii Five-O' Soundtrack

10/10/2011 2:15pm EDT
Hawaii Five-O
TV soundtracks can be ways to discover new music, or just for a studio to cash in on a hot property. CBS Music's Hawaii Five-O: Original Songs From The Television Series is a bit of both.

It wouldn't be the first time that a soundtrack has come out for sheer merchandising purposes. There are a lot of those, where songs clearly end up in a TV show just to push a single or so that a CD can be made up later. Heck, even some of the soundtracks that come out after a season aren't very good.

Hawaii Five-O's disc curiously takes the opposite tack from most soundtracks: the CD is billed on Amaz...

David Archuleta
The road to the final two on TV's most popular show "American Idol" has finally arrived. Tuesday night's round of performances featured the final three contestants performing three songs: a judge's selection, a contestant favorite and a producer's choice. It was make it or break it for the final three. Who would end up in the finale?

Just in case you missed it, here is Tuesday night's recap: Little David sang "And So It Goes" by Billy Joel, a song selected by Paula Abdul. The performance was predictable but yet still good enough to keep him alive. As for his song choice, he chose ...

Graham Colton
"I've never felt more like myself than I have on this album. I found myself, and I finally found my voice," the singer, songwriter and guitarist Graham Colton says of his forthcoming CD, 'Here Right Now.'

Don't call it a simple return. Call it a metamorphosis, a deep progression, an inspired evolution or - perhaps most fitting - a rewarding exercise in self-actualization. Stepping into his own in order to connect to his heart and artistic vision, Graham Colton has emerged with a stunning collection of pop-rock melodies, lyrics and emotions in 12 tracks that swing between love and hear...

The Jonas Brothers
The highly anticipated follow-up to the New Jersey siblings' 2006 debut—which featured the TRL hit "Mandy"—The Jonas Brothers is sure to make good on the band's goal: It's a high-energy pop-punk disc overflowing with insanely catchy hooks, muscular guitar fuzz and mature songwriting that reveals just how much growing up the boys have done since we last heard from them.

Ask the Jonas Brothers who they're hoping to turn into fans with their new self-titled CD and they won't say "everybody." But that's precisely what they'll mean. "We're aiming for people our age," says 17-year-old Joe. ...
