NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Porter Wagoner has lung cancer and remains hospitalized in serious condition, a publicist for the country singer said Sunday.

Country music turned nasty at the weekend when Canadian police arrested 44 fans at a four-day festival, featuring Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood, in Saskatchewan. According to local reports, the Craven Country Music Jamboree turned into chaos when 23,000 music fans descended on the town for Sunday's finale.

Country legend Porter Wagoner is to reteam with Dolly Parton, the busty blonde he discovered, to celebrate his 50 years in the music business. Parton and Patty Loveless and others will pay tribute to Wagoner at Nashville, Tennessee's Grand Ole Opry on May 19.

Leann Rimes has joined a host of fellow country music stars to petition for better preservation of vintage country performances. The singer kicked off the The Soul of Country, this year's Grammy Foundation Music Preservation Project, last night with a cover of Patsy Cline's "Crazy" and used the occasion to highlight the plight of old audio and video performances.

Marty Stuart will appear live on MSNBC TV's Imus In the Morning on Monday, January 23rd, performing several songs to launch his new Universal South bluegrass CD, Live At The Ryman. The Imus show is broadcast live from 6-9 a.m. (ET) on MSNBC and is also carried by radio affiliates across the country.
