3/30/2011 10:51pm EDT
Chris Brown F.A.M.E.
Despite his recent violent outburst on Good Morning America, racy photos that hit the 'net and a publicist vacancy, Chris Brown has persevered all the negativity surrounding him lately and has risen to the top again by scoring a number one debut with his new album, "F.A.M.E."

Apparently he still has fans after all.

Brown performed on Tuesday night's episode of Dancing With The Stars; and prior to the show, host Tom Bergeron made it clear to producers that he didn't want to interview the "Kiss Kiss" singer. The host said that he couldn't guarantee that he wouldn't bring up Brown's 2009 Rih...

A Small Collection Of Christmas Music Videos

12/24/2009 1:41pm EST
Christmas music video
Back when MTV played music videos (remember those?), this time of year was reserved for playing the best… and worst Christmas classics that pop culture had to offer. Even though the days of Christmas tunes playing on TV until 3 am are over, the art of the Christmas music video has never gone away. To celebrate, Starpulse has put together a small collection of yuletide joy to celebrate the season. Eat that MTV.

Bob Dylan - "Must Be Santa"

Who would have guessed that Bob Dylan threw such bitching Christmas parties? The lead single off of Bob Dylan's strange new Christmas album "Christma...

The 25 Most Important Albums Of The Decade

12/23/2009 11:43am EST
Most Important Albums of the Decade
Pitchfork and Rolling Stone and Spin and all those other outlets have their lists of the best albums of the decade, and you know what? I'm going to let them. There's no point in me trying to come up with that list because there were so many great records to choose from. Who's to say that The Strokes' Is This It? was better than Muse's Absolution or any album by Arcade Fire? You can't! You can't! Best albums are invariably marked by an editor's (or staff's) preference in music. But what about qualifying the most important? I can tell you that Bob Dylan's Modern Times was probably the best re...

'Remind Me In 3 Days…' The New Album From The Knux Out Oct. 28

10/18/2008 9:00am EDT
The Knux
Hip hop used to be feeling, not form—A boom-bap rush that could, and would, be interpreted and articulated differently by it's various creators. It was this loose constitution, open to infinite amendments that bred the broad crop of creative, innovative rap in late '80s and early '90s. However, things changed. When the financial stakes is high, that which makes dollars makes sense, and consequently a more polished and rigid vision of hip hop emerged in the mid-'90s, and it catapulted the genre to new heights.

Hip hop continued to progress into the new millennium and brought even newer...

Modest Mouse: Defining A Generational Band

3/11/2008 1:38pm EDT
Modest Mouse
The 2000s will most likely be remembered for the dispersion of culture throughout a variety of media outlets. Because there are so many different places to take in entertainment, there are likewise just as many styles to be distributed. This is the primary reason for the lack of one coherent movement or group, like Grunge and Nirvana of the early 90s, to capture the collective conscious of the post generation-X community. Why let yourself be defined by one group when you there are so many different bands out there?

One day, one might feel like rap, when another day one might feel like...

The New Face Of Psych Rock: A Modern Movement With A Familiar Feel

1/21/2008 11:33am EST
Dr. Dog
Flip on your radio these days and you'll likely hear zealously polished vocal melodies accompanied by synthetic instruments, digitally programmed beats, and looped samples. Lo-fi sensibility, improvisation, and general creativity seem to have vanished from pop music altogether.

Look closely enough, however, and you'll see that a handful of experimental pioneers are keeping the tradition of 60s-style psychedelia and musical craftsmanship alive, doing for psychedelic rock what The Strokes and The White Stripes did for indie rock just a few years ago.
