Grammy Predictions: Who Wins In The Pop Categories?

December 21st, 2014 11:00am EST
The 57th Grammy Award Predictions: Who Wins In The Pop Categorie
The cream of the crop of the Grammy Awards resides in what’s known as the ‘big four’ – record of the year, album of the year, song of the year, and best new artist. As previously stated via Early Grammy Predictions: Who Wins Album, Record And Song Of The Year?, British pop/R&B newcomer Sam Smith was a heavy favorite. Of the genre-specific categories, arguably the most interesting is pop, namely four specific awards: Best pop solo performance, best pop/duo group performance, best traditional pop vocal album, and the coveted best pop vocal album. So, who wins in those standout pop categori...

Blake Shelton Wins Race To The Top of The Billboard 200

October 9th, 2014 11:13am EDT
Blake Shelton
When the Billboard issue their chart prognostications last week, it was suggested that Blake Shelton had a solid shot at his second career #1 album. That said, that forecast would become cloudy thanks to one Barbra Streisand, who was projected to be competitive in the race for the top spot once again. Fellow country artists Lady Antebellum were considered to be likely third place. Things didn’t complete go as expected.

Blake Shelton indeed topped the Billboard 200, selling a more robust than expected 101,000 copies of Bringing Back The Sunshine. While prognostications had allotted 90...

Barbra Streisand’s 'Partners' Beats Chris Brown for Top Spot on
Few 72-year olds can do it like Barbra Streisand. Who just landed another #1 album – Barbra Streisand! Duets album Partners not only debuted at #1, but did so with larger than expected numbers (196,000 copies). It also made history giving Streisand at least one #1 album in the past six decades. Go Barbra – it’s your birthday… well not really!

Chris Brown settles for the #2 spot behind Streisand, as X sells 146,000 copies. While Brown might be disappointed he didn’t score his third number one album, X performed better its first week than Fortune, which sold 135,000 copies. Maybe even ...

Barbra Streisand Makes Billboard History With A Little Help From
Barbra Streisand made chart history this week as her new duets album "Partners" has made her the only artist to score a number-one record in each of the past six decades.

The singer landed the first of her 10 number-ones in 1964 with her fourth album "People," which is one month shy of its 50th anniversary. She was back on top a decade later with the double-platinum "The Way We Were," followed by the soundtrack for "A Star Is Born" in 1976, which she recorded with Kris Kristofferson. In '78 her "Greatest Hits Vol. 2" also landed at no. 1.

Streisand landed a pair of chart toppers in both t...

Review: Barbra Streisand Sounds Amazing On 'Partners'

September 22nd, 2014 7:20pm EDT
Barbra Streisand - Partners
Nothing better than getting “a little help from friends” right? That’s exactly what veteran entertainer Barbra Streisand does on her latest studio album, Partners. Why go it alone when you can enlist the likes of Michael Bublé, Stevie Wonder, and Billy Joel on your album? Covering classics she popularized (such as “The Way We Were”) as well as classic vocal standards, Partners is a truly beautiful effort with Streisand herself sounding truly amazing. 72 – she can’t be!

Partners opens stunningly with standard “It Had To Be You” with Michael Bublé serving as Streisand's partner in c...

Christian Rapper Lecrae Takes ‘Anomaly’ To The Top Of Billboard 200

Lecrae Anomaly
It’s rare that the Christian rapper debuts atop the Billboard 200. How rare – well it never happens – like “never ever.” Anyways, Lecrae made it happen this week as Anomaly outperformed early prognostications and sold 88,000 copies. Lecrae was able to hold off a strong second week from Maroon 5’s V (80,000 copies, #2) as well as what was thought to be a tight race with Jhené Aiko (Souled Out sold 70,000 copies, good for #3).

While Lecrae’s debut is celebratory, it is also another week where no albums moved 100,000 copies. Throw in the fact that besides Lecrae and Jhené Aiko, the top ...
