R.E.M. Shoot New Video In Sex Shop

Rockers R.E.M. have shot a new video in a New York City sex shop. The group filmed part of the promo for new single "Supernatural Serious" at Babeland on Rivington Street in Manhattan on Monday.

Babeland co-owner Claire Cavanah tells Billboard.com she was thrilled to get a call from the group's manager hours before bandmates Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Mike Mills showed up to "play" to stunned shoppers. She says, "We were thrilled."

R.E.M. performed a 30-minute set in the store's window. The trio took over the Italian restaurant next door for other scenes.

Michael Stipe Dropped From Jury Duty

R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe has stepped down from jury service in Georgia - because he couldn't treat the case of an alleged stalker fairly.

The Everybody Hurts hitmaker was due to sit on a trial for a man accused of sneaking into a middle school and trying to sexually assault a girl.

But Stipe told Clarke County Superior Court Judge Lawton Stephens he could not be fair and impartial in the case because he has been the target of stalkers and death threats.

Fifteen other potential jurors were dismissed after confessing they had already made up their minds about the verdict....

R.E.M To Release New Album?

R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe has prompted speculation the band is close to releasing a secret new album - by making a cryptic confession at a charity event.

The Pop Song 89 band hasn't released any new material since 2004's Around The Sun, and fans haven't been anticipating a 14th studio LP.

But Stipe set tongues wagging when he told a reporter at a celebrity lunch box auction in New York last week, "Let me tell you a secret: we have a great f---ing record in the bag. It's a big change. It's coming out on April Fool's Day."

“Until the Day Is Done”, the new song from R.E.M., will debut on Anderson Cooper 360° on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in advance of their widely anticipated forthcoming album due for release next spring.

The song will be matched to clips from CNN’s "Planet in Peril," which features footage from areas around the world where environmental crises are not a theory but are happening in real time, and will play over the documentary’s closing credits.
